Please be aware that sadly some taxi's try to take advantage of you as a tourist too. They have regular fee's then TOURIST fee's. Which means they will try to get extra out of you if they can. Most of the taxi's at the Sambil mall the Luxor or Sambil ones ...it will have these names on their door's or roof taxi signs are nicer and they have a list of all of their fee's posted on their window's inside. LOOK AT IT. See where you need to go and *those* are the fee's you should be paying.
For example once you're in town .....if you're at Centro AB, they should only charge you 4,000 bs to go to the Sambil Mall. It's so close I have even walked it ! If you are at Rattan Depot Plaza then if you decide to go to the Mall then it is only 5,000 bs. Just always be sure to ask BEFORE you get in the taxi how much ....say CUANTO para ....(your location) ...then if they jack up the price and you know it's less then just say "No Gracias" and shut the door. Try for another taxi. Not all of them are out to gain an extra buck. So please don't think every taxi driver is the same. If you're staying in Porlamar and need to go to the Airport then it should only cost you 20,000 bs. Again if you find one of those taxi list's on their window... look at it and note the actual prices. El Aerpuerto is the airport and the other's have a price next to the locations.
It really bugs me when my American friends that have lived here for as long as I have .....still get ripped off sometimes when the taxi's charge them extra just because they DO look very American.
Just always be on your toes and try not to let people take advantage. I think that all of you who have money to travel is great. But just because you DO have enough to make a trip here doesn't give anyone the right to take more from you than they really should regardless if you have the money or not to give. Everyone works hard for a living ... and we can all gain and benefit from having Tourist's come to Margarita IF we all remain *fair* and if they would just charge what they are suppose to charge. They will come to help you and put your card thru a card-copier!! ... end of story :(
The only save cash points are in the airport, or in large banks in Porlamar.
bring enough money and rent a safe in a hotel. They wont rob you! unless you walk with your money behind your ear... Leave a Comment

On some tourist spots children are bagging for money, do NOT give them money!
They keep away from school because the earn sometimes more money that the parants this way...
give them candy or a pencil...
or you stop and give someting or keep on going! if you stop and give nothing, some of them could be offencive... Leave a Comment

The travelagencies are warning the tourist for the pirates. Pirates are people who are selling trips to the tourist for a cheaper price than the travelagencies.
As you can imagine the travelagencies don't improve this. So they warn the tourist for the evil pirates.
Oke, I can tell you that I did a trip with one of these pirates. And it was perfect !!!
A nice scuba-diving trip to a little pelican-island. On the little boat we got some soda and some chips. The 'pirate' was a perfect guide under water.
Actually......the 'pirate' looked a bit like Jesus...and you know what his name was ??? Yesss..Jesus. Funny hé ??!! Leave a Comment
