by Saringuis Some taxi's offer you a "special service". for example if you are going to a beach which is far away, he might give you his number and you can text him whenever you want him to pick you up. Also for the next days, he brings you wherever you want to be... Like a personal taxi if you want. Very handy if you've found yourself a friendly, safe driver that doesn't ask too much money! window tinting in a taxi by Jalapeno57 We do not recommend an all day island tour in a taxi or tour bus. A lot of the taxis have dark purple window tinting - even on the windshields, except for a strip for the driver to see out of. A lot of the taxis have air fresheners that made our daughter almost carsick & that was just a 15/20 min. ride. We contaced a tour guide Marcos Ochoa before we arrived on the island. We found him from another travel review website. Marcos has a safari jeep that is so perfect for touring around. You can take photos of anything since there are no side windows to deal with. We have so many great pictures of the island that were taken from Marcos' jeep. It's the only way to see the island. For an all day tour, tour at the National Park, lunch, drinks along the way Marcos charged US$45 per person & well worth it. marcostours@yahoo.com Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomeWebsite: marcostours@yahoo.com

by lina112 La mejor manera de moverse por la isla es por taxi, son eficientes y rápidos. Hay que gastar cuidado por las noches que suelen cobrar algo mas de la cuenta. The best way to move there, cheap and fast. At night you have to negotiate the price but is ok. Leave a Comment

Use the official cabs! There are lots of people who are making there money with driving around with there car and charge you the double, tripple if they see your a tourist. Never the less, if you want to go by night take a cab and tell him to be back at the same spot some hours later! You 'll pay on the retur trip Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

the slowes bus of the island ;-) you crawl faster by Renteboy, 1 more photos I will spend no words on this one! Take a bus! you'll jump into 1 big adventure!! life as it is on the island... Usually there decorated with a kind of stuff.. this one had none... :S Know that airco is not a thing you will find on a regular bus... so if it is packed, know it will be damn hot in there! by Tetreus This was the local bus who took the tourist from the hotel to the several beaches on the island. Unfortunately this bus was broke......for a few hours. The garage was nearby and after a few hours....the driver took us after approximately 10 stops to the beach. :-(( Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Riding the bus prob one of the best descisions to get around on the eastern part of the island. Fare is about 0.12 to 0.16 €, buses have numbers which indicate the route. To get elsewhere, take one of the inexpensive taxis but negotiate for fare before you get in. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

As Venezuela is an oil-rich country and unlike Canada, they don't make their money off the backs of their citizens, gas is very affordable (when we there it was @ 3 cents/litre!). This cheap gas makes getting around the island by taxi very affordable. We went from our hotel on Playa el Aqua to Porlamar for 25,000 Bolivars, which is about just over $8USD. Considering this is about at least a 30 minute drive, it is an exceptionally good price, compared to Canada anyway. Make sure you agree on the price of your taxi before taking it - we heard this as a tip, so we are not sure what happens if you don't. We also took a taxi from the ConeHares market over to the Sambil shopping mall for 10,000 Bolivars ($3.50USD) and this was about 20 minutes across to the other side of the city. We had heard that it is difficult to rent a car, and if you observe how people drive over there, you may not want to be driving yourself anyway. I've driven in two of the busiest cities in the world (London, UK and Manhattan, NY) and compared to the drivers in Margarita, the drivers in those cities are tame. I couldn't figure out the 'rules of the road' through observation and I consider myself a seasoned driver. Not that we enquired, but I had heard you could contract a taxi for the day, which I'm sure you could negotiate for a reasonable price if you just wanted to explore the island. The Jeep tour we took at $35USD was extensive enough for us. Theme: Car/Motor Home

the cab driver on margarita - showed me round by lcloh it's really cheap to take a taxi around isla margarita and visit all the great colonial history sites... la asuncion, juan griego, etc. the taxi drivers know what you may not know in your tourbook, and it costs about USD 30 for a full day... really good. awesome! great way to check out the local scenes, the tourist sites, and delve into the history.
