Greet the Dawn with your Siblings

    Greeting the dawn
    1 more image

After dancing the night away on our final night out (somewhere near Punto Fijo I think)before returning to England, Sister No1 and I greeted the dawn in the company of beloved 'baby' Brother No2...

We stayed up all night dancing meringe, (n.b. - too much meringe is not good for your soul!) going to a rock music bar and generally causing mayhem before greeting a spectacular dawn skies (see 2nd pic).

The tiredness kicked in on the flight from Aruba to Amsterdam, which was rather handy - but we had promised both brothers 1 & 2, that we would manage one 'all nighter ' during this visit, and we couldn't possibly let them down !

(Thank God for our Step-Mother who made everyone soup the next day that settles the tummy ).

    Lie Around in a Hammock

It can get very hot in LosTaques. Often (especially early afternoon) you can just about muster up the energy to lie around in a Hammock. To my way of thinking, hammocks are the most civilised invention! Great for reading, extra beds for unexpected guests, just chilling or even taking it to the beach.

You can buy some lovely, brightly coloured and very reasonably pirced hammocks in stores or roadside stalls all over Venezuela.

    The Beach at Adicora

    Adicora playa
    3 more images

Not far from Los Taques in the car, Adicora beach has wonderful warm waters and is very relaxed and scenic, with a few little fishing boats bobbing around in the bay and a couple of little cafe bars along the seafront.

There can be quite strong underwater currents there, apparently coming from the Atlantic Ocean (the surf of which you can see at an angle to the right of the beach in my photo), also offshore winds, this area is popular with windsurfers . So even seemingly calm waters, take care to stay within the swimming boundries (marked clearly by bouys).

This spot was also extremely popular for the viewing of the 1998 eclipse, Paraguana apparently having the best viewing point.

There are restaurants and cafes along the seafront and a variety of little tourist shops. We had a lovely time on this beach.

    Watch The Sun Set

Sunset at Villa Marina, Los Taques
    3 more images

There are some fantastic sunsets to experience in the region of Los Taques. Night after night we witnessed spectacular burnt orange skies as we watched the sun sink behind the horizon from the beautiful unspoilt beaches at Villa Marina.

There are also amazing views of the skyline from The Opera Singers house.

    Wonderful.

    Party on the Beach

    The Crazy Gang

Venezuelans don't go to the beach to relax. You don't see many lying around on towels in this country unless they are asleep. (The two people pictured on towels in this pic, are not living in Venezuela). During the holidays, a trip to the beach, is usually an invitation to party.

In Los Taques, the Villa Marina beach is no exception . In the holidays, thousands upon thousands jam the roads to descend and party from dawn 'til dusk along with their car stereos and live bands blasting Latin music. Cold boxes full of beer and snacks are brought along, sometimes the family hammock and in our family, the prized domino table comes too. There are a variety of watersports, but not overkill and you can buy local arts, jewelry, clothes, fake designer shades etc and snacks off the passing traders.

The warm climate means you can have a party outside nearly every day of the year (unlike the unpredictable English weather!) and saves your house from the big mess ; )

Irrelevant thought : I have no idea why we lie on our towels in the UK, personally, I have always thought it was a silly idea, as they just get covered in sand. I shall endeavour to remember a chair on my next trip to the beach.

    La Playa

Quando cliente el sol, aqui la playa
    1 more image

As I say, the main attraction of Los Taques are the unspoilt beaches in the area.

Pictured here, The Opera Singer, Amapola & the Small Person, soaking up the afternoon sun at the beach belonging to the new hotel near Villa Marina.

It can get pretty windy at times. If you get up from your chair, it will blow upside down immediately.

    Handy Tip :
Tie any loose clothes to the back of your deckchair and turn it upside down in the sand while swimming.

I made comment that we should take some windbreakers to the beach, a la English beach style, and I was told that the whole hotel had a giant windbreaker around it, to whuch I couldn't help pointing out, 'wasn't working very well' (Oops!).

Still, a lovely spot and you are never cold, eevn when the wind is blowing.

(I will try to remember the Hotel name, it had some nice gardens, swimming pools (although some of there walls and decor were a little 'brown'). They brought us chairs and served us a lovely cocktails on the beach).

Hang Out With Your Brothers & Sisters

    Brother Love
    3 more images

We had such a good time hanging out with out nos hermanos. Venezuelan men know how to look after their sisters very well (as well as being the best dancing partners) and are very huggy and utterly charming.

Pictured here, are me and Sister No 1 with Brother No1 who we totally adore.

I miss being with them, back home here in the UK and would highly recommend any females out there to get a Venezuelan brother by hook or by crook ; )
