It is a nice ride. The landscapes around the road are gorgeous. But you need to be very careful the road is ful of dangerous curves and in some areas there are huge holes on the road.
If you are in Caracas there is a road that takes you through other little town " El Junquito" in witch you can stop for a horse ride. Whether you keep going ahead You'll get to The Colonia Tovar.
From Los Teques City you can go to la Colonia T. too. I took this one last time and I like it better. It is more beautiful and adventurous that the previous one. So you can stop in "El Jarillo" It is a little town similar to the Colonia Tovar. In Venezuela fuel is very cheap but if you take the buses it wont cost you more than 6$ the whole trip.

Colonia Tovar REALLY bad air!
There are so many cars in Tovar, and somehow, maybe due to the altitude of that place, the smog from the cars feels very very bad. Close to really making you feel sick after some time. If you can't stand that, going on weekdays would be a preferable idea instead of weekends (crowded). Otherwise just be prepared and don't expect fresh mountain air...
