Very close to Colonia Tovar is a village called EL JUNQUITO. In between this two is a very good place to go horseback riding. Actually, as you drive down the road you will see various places with horses where you can do this.. but choose wisely where to stop. In some of the places the horses look so sad.. and unhealthy.. I would not ride them!...more

If you are in Caracas there is a road that takes you through other little town " El Junquito" in witch you can stop for a horse ride. Whether you keep going ahead You'll get to The Colonia Tovar.
From Los Teques City you can go to la Colonia T. too. I took this one last time and I like it better. It is more beautiful and adventurous that the previous one. So you can stop in "El Jarillo" It is a little town similar to the Colonia Tovar. In Venezuela fuel is very cheap but if you take the buses it wont cost you more than 6$ the whole trip.
There are many little stores, just stop by and look around, you will find some really locally made craft, great for taking back home..

Kids put on costumes all over the country , but in La Colonia Tovar the locals usually disguise as Gorillas!!??? I wonder why....
There are so many cars in Tovar, and somehow, maybe due to the altitude of that place, the smog from the cars feels very very bad. Close to really making you feel sick after some time. If you can't stand that, going on weekdays would be a preferable idea instead of weekends (crowded). Otherwise just be prepared and don't expect fresh mountain air...
