Venezuela is a beautiful country with very rich and very poor people. As a tourist always be aware that you are rich for most of the locals. Don’t wear expensive stuff, don’t showoff your richness. As our hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the Paseo Colon we had to walk trough the poor blocks of the city. As four blokes we had no problems but two female hotelguests got robbed within 1 minute when they left the hotel (looking as a prototype tourist wearing jewelry from top to toe of course).

The waste-pipes in the hotels are not made for toiletpaper so don’t put it in there! There is a basket on every toilet were you have to drop your used paper. The first thing I agreed with my roommate was to use the toilets in the lobby!

    Tip and warning
You can change foreign currency in local shops, it is not dangerous but you have to know what your money is worth. It can be cheaper than the regular places like hotel receptions and banks.
