Very difficult times

by AleMich13

My country, Venezuela, is going through very difficult times. Our President / Dictator rules against his own people. He has tried to divide us between "rich and poor" (he, of course, says his "cause" are these last ones; nothing farther from the truth) when the reality is that we're all the same, we're all Venezuelans, we all want our country to develop, to be free, to have democracy. We WANT PEACE, he wants violence. We want a PRESIDENTIAL REFERENDUM , he wants to RULE UNDER AN ANTIDEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT UNTIL 2021. He' s friends with Castro, Hussein and Gadaffi (he doesn't hide it, he proclaims it). He's friends with Colombian guerrillas. He's striving to eliminate the power of the media that's against him. He's heading to the termination of separate powers. HE TRIED TO GET TO POWER THROUGH A COUP -D'ETAT IN 1992 . HE WAS IN JAIL. THE FACT THAT HE WAS ELECTED PRESIDENT IN 1998 (for a 5...

Merida

by luiggi

Founded in 1558 with the name "Ciudad de Santiago de Los Caballeros de Mérida", the city of Mérida sits above an expansive meseta at 1,625 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Andes Mountains. With a population of 130,000, Mérida has the largest number of inhabitants of any city in the state. Its pace of growth has increased dramatically during the past twenty years. La Universidad de Los Andes is the oldest and one of the most prestigious centers of higher education in the country. The people of Mérida are characterized as polite, educated, and hardworking. Generally conservative, they cherish their traditions and devout religious faith. Their love of nature is mirrored in the more than 40 parks and gardens found throughout the city, the most famous of which is the Parque Zoológico Chorros de Milla with its beautiful waterfalls, gardens, and small zoo. The Merideños are also fond...

Caracas

A city with a population average of about five million inhabitants, is without a doubt a full of contrasts city. One type of social division is prominent and marked, this is the population's clear division in economic sectors, the same as in most of the metropolises of the under developed countries, but with a high and marked contrast. There are modern urbanizations with great architectural sense that are adjacent to neighborhoods of very low profile, contrasting luxurious and modern buildings with the housing of the poor class, in their majority houses of bricks without painting and roofs of zinc, in which inhabit in conditions very below the basic a wide margin of the population of the city. This housing type is denominated "rancho" and it covers the hillsides of the hills that surround the city.

Canaima

by luiggi

The Canaima National Park is located at the southeast of the Bolivar State at approximately 225 Km from the Orinoco River, in the area called Gran Sabana. In this great area of magnificent landscapes, there are combined forest and savannas with the spectacular Tepuyes.

Guayana

by luiggi

One of the oldest geological regions on earth is that one located to the South of the Orinoco River. It is a unique land with magnificent landscapes. Venezuelan Guayana is home of the very ancient geological formation called Tepuys; high mountains with vertical hillsides that host on their summits systems rarely found anywhere else.

Ciudad Bolivar

by luiggi

The state capital was founded in 1764 under the name of Santo Tomé de Guayana de Angostura del Orinoco and known simply as Angostura. For years, the city served as the base for Liberator Simón Bolívar’s military operations, leading to the final stage of the War for Independence. In fact, in 1846, Angostura changed its name to that of Ciudad Bolívar, in honor of the Liberator. The Congress of Angostura held in that city approved the creation of Gran Colombia, a new republic that was to be comprised of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. The historical city center, now duly restored and maintained, today shows signs of the historic deeds of the War for Independence.

Dont forget anything at home....

by La_Canchita

but if you do, no worries. Venezuela has everything you need! It just will cost a bit more than at home for some of the essentials. Honestly, make an effort to meet the nationals. I will say this for all countries as well. But they are what makes the trips more worth while, they know where to go to hang out, they know where the cheap but good food is and they know about the dangers that otherwise you might not ever know about. Venezuelans are truely amazing people and I cannot think of one that was not.

Having rest

by Chupacabra

For me Venezuela has specially been a country of rest. There are a lot of beautiful places like Los Roques and Canaima where you can spend your time enjoying the beauty of the spot, reading, listening to music, sunbathing, be quiet.....All this of course when you travel out of the high season !!! The beauty and the different kind of landscape. The paradise in Los Roques (I stayed 4 days..it was enough)

Beaches

by K1W1

Venezuela has some fantastic beaches and many are totally free of people. They are not too difficult to find and are well worth taking the time to explore and enjoy. Chicherivichi is on the Eastern Caribbean coast of Venezuela. I visited here with some friends on a honeymoon. What a place! Accomdation was just USD10 per room and the town seemed to still be in the backwaters for tourism. There were plenty of offers for boat trips to the isolated beaches and the snorkelling was great. Try Cayo Sombrero for an island paradise.
