Hey you out...

by Bill_Steg

Hey you out there...........Born a traveler and having traveled at both ends of the financial scale I prefer to travel budget style; for it's the nicest way to meet genuine people of all color, creed and religion. I also believe strongly that there should be more opportunities for disabled people to travel this way. Maybe some of you out there might have the some idea on this subject.......let me know:-) I'll be more than willing to give freely of my time to 'assist' those amongst us that are less fortunate and are not able to enjoy the kind of travels most of us hold for so much granted........

by dreamworld

If you like jungle : go to Canaima area, where you've got the famous Salto Angel Falls (highest in the world) but also jungle trek and boat trips along the river. If you like nice coastal beaches, go east of Barcelona, into the Parque National Mochima, nice beaches and lots of small island (local boatmen organize excursions..you may see dolphins)If you like mountain sceneries, go to Merida area, where you drive through very high passes. The city itself is at 1625 meters altitude (roughly 5000 feet) and is very pleasant. There used to be a 'teleferico' (= cable car) which was supposed to be one of the most dangerous in the world. When we showed up, it was not working due to the fact that.........one of the 'cars' had fallen down !!!If you like petroleum industry (berkkkkk) go to Maracaibo and Coro area, but be prepared to be stopped by army check-point (they don't really like foreigners...

Tamani's General Tip

Visiting the canaima region (Angel falls). This is the 'El Hacha' fall. You can also walk behind the 'El Sapo' fall, which is quite adventurous. Especially if you are wearing contact lenses...I walked a lot of time with my eyes closed.

See Caracas from National Parc Avila, that involves the city of Caracas. It's wonderful, the view from the montain.Visit Los Roques, do snorkeling and view the tropical fish wih colors like blue and green swiming around your feet.See iguanas at the beach in Mochima National Park. And you have to visit Canaima..swiming in the Lagoon with a a waterfall falling behind you and see the The Angel falls - the highest waterfall in the world, from a little plain. The temperature of sea waters (so warm that we could't refresh into the water), and the colours of the waters of the archipelago of Los Roques, an atoll of reef-islands, tidal islets and reefs , where fishes from all colors, swim with me at the same time, around my feet and legs.

by kucha

The most enjoyable trip I took to Venezuela involved chartering a private plane and touring the entire country. This country is truly diverse! We saw: the busy industrial cities; beautiful beach towns; Andean cities; stunning rock formations; the incomparable Angel Falls (see more elsewhere); highland plains; and more. Planes (and pilots!) can be chartered from the downtwon Caracas airport and it's really well worth the expense to try to see the country this way -- especially if you have a large enough group to justify the cost.

Take in the striking beauty of the city of Caracas. Although filled with poor areas, the mountains into which the city has spread, are a gorgeous backdrop to the city. I was always struck by a feeling of 'time-warp' in Caracas -- like I was viewing the city as it might have been in the late 50's. Perhaps this is because so many of the older buildings remain standing; perhaps it's the huge amounts of neon; perhaps the narrow 'highways' that traverse the city...There is, in fact, a hotel in which I stayed frequently (cannot remember the name, but it's right by the downtown airport) that has bullet holes in the side of the building remaining from a coup several decades ago. Nobody has bothered to fix it!

Venezuela is a mixed bag...

by seaponics

Venezuela is a mixed bag economically, most are poor but the country is rich with oil aand one of U.S. major suppliers. when you drive to the capital you pass a hillside where people illegally build homes w/o sanitation that goes into a river below. they steal electricity and the gov't turns the other way because they choose not to provide adequit housing. The oil brought the need to build an infastructure but w/o skilled labor they turned to nations around the globe to do the work. The result shows in the the varied skin and eye color combinations that will give you whiplash as you catch sight of these often beautiful results. The military has a large presense here and can be unerving. There is a rain forrest that is astounding aand a must see attraction. The Arte Moreno glass works and the glass blower who came to the nearby cafe and surprized me with a gift he'd made for me. I gave...

Isla de MargaritaLocated...

by Juliet67

Isla de MargaritaLocated 40km north of the mainland is the island of Margarita, Venezuela's premier beach holiday destination. The population of 300'000 is to be found mainly in the larger cities of Porlamar, Pampatar, El Asuncion and Juan Griego. More than 50 beaches can be found all around the island, while the prettier ones are on the east coast. The tourism season doesn't really start before August, so most places are fairly quiet in June, tourist-wise. June is also the beginning of the rain season. Temperatures hover around a nice 27°C.I stayed in PLAYA EL AGUA (northeastern part of the island) for most of my trip. This is a very well developed beach sporting all amenities one has grown accustomed to. It is lined with several dozen restaurants, beach bars and discotheques, although most were closed for the off-season. Still, the crowd was decidedly international. I met people from...

by Juliet67

MARGARITA was discovered by Christopholo Columbus on August 15th, 1498, and claimed by Emperor Carlos V on March 18th, 1525. By petition of Jose Cortes of Madariaga, one of the leaders of the Independence movement of Venezuela, our state was named Nueva Esparta on May 12th, 1817. The seat of government was then officially established in Pampatar. MARGARITA offers all types of water sports - jet skiing, surfing, diving, snorkeling, fishing, and windsurfing.
