Maracaibo is the largest urban center after Caracas and the most important port of Venezuela. It lies at the banks of the Maracaibo Lake, one of the biggest petroleum sources in the world.

See the Parque Central (pictured here,) the Plaza Venezuela, and the Bulevar de Sabana Grande to do some people watching.

Venezuela has an abundance of wildlife and most are fairly approachable. This pelican was just one of the many bird species I saw off the Cayes near Chicherviche.

It was fun bartering at the stores.

Visit Gran Sabana. It's a real wilderness. But beautiful and peaceful.

Visit the island of Margarita, which compares to the nicest Caribbean islands in terms of beaches and natural beauty, yet lacks the crowds and high prices.
