Wuakajara: Fishing for shrimp in the Orinoco delta jungle

by Warao

Go down to the river after dark. You need to mix up some corn flour and water to make dough balls. Place one in the palm of your hand and cup your fingers around it. Submerge your hand and arm into the river as deep as possible. Soon the shrimp will come to feed on the dough ball. You hope it is only shrimp. At night you might fear putting your arm in the dark water, but go ahead, you can't catch shrimp if you don't. When you feel one between your fingers, grab quickly and pull it out and place in a bucket. When you have enough, place them in a kettle over a fire and add oil. When cooked, enjoy your fresh shrimp. At night in the delta there are a lot of mosquitos. You need to wear clothing that will cover up as much skin as possible. A good bug repellant with DEET in it is also very helpful to keep the mosquitos away.

Out 'till dawn

by Jacana

Nightlife in Venezuela, specially in the cities, starts around 10p.m. Usually we go someplace quiet at first, we drink some beers, chat a little bit and then, around midnight or 1am we go to our final destination of the night, wherever that might be... to emerge from it no earlier than 4am. Great!!Sometimes, if anyone's hungry after all that, we go eat an "arepa" or a hot dog, or a burger, or whatever. From whatever you were wearing during the day to suit and tie

CENTRO SAN IGNACIO

by parsix

Centro San Ignacio is a Mall. There are plenty of restaurants and clubs to choose from. There is something for every crowd. Some of them: Loft, Massai....In the picture some of my friends and myself "chismeando" at dinner.

Merida... Beer costs 20p, yes,...

by apple_pip

Merida... Beer costs 20p, yes, 20p a bottle! Very studenty town, and some great bars. Beware the slimy men, although you do tend to get free beer sent to your table if your lucky! As we were all females travelling it was a bit wierd to be out without a man, as there are very few unaccompanied girls who go out. Everybody will also want to teach you to Salsa! South American men can dance very well! We found a great bar on the corner of Calle 19 and Av 4 with a picture of an alligator outside (this is not Alfonso's which all the guide books tell you about!) it's a sports bar with internet access as well. Very friendly and a lot nicer than Alfonso's... (is opposite a bar with a picture of a foot on the wall!) Whatever... we were in flip-flops and baggy trousers! Don't dress raunchily as it will egt you more attention than you will want... the fact that you are foreign will make enough...

The nightlife in Las Mercedes...

by Nomad_2001

The nightlife in Las Mercedes is hoppin. There you will find numerous bars and nightclubs to while the hours away into the early morning. This area is probably also one of the safest parts of Caracas at night.

One of the things that I did that I would highly recommend is going paragliding. While there I went 2 times with Guamanchi Expeditions (my pilot was Jose)..... He's been piloting for about 15 years (tandem for about 11)..... And at US$60 / time that's a real bargin..... This is me high above the ground..... Did I mention my fear of heights.. Well not anymore.

Gradas y La Kucaracha, La Obra

by zaimah5

Gradas y La Kucaracha, La ObraGradas is more like a bar with good music and some dancing. La Kucaracha is a 2 level club with plenty of Dance, Salsa, Reggae, Rock, Techno, etc. Hang out with the locals and make some life long friends. La Obra ( I think that is how you spell it) LIVE MUSIC!!!!

The jungle.: The jungle.

by Hil

As it gets dark very early in Venezuela (at about 6 pm) there is no nightlife in the sense of dancing and drinking, when you are in the jungle or at the top of Roraima. BUT there is a lot to see and hear: fireflies, frogs, moskitos, birds, ... It's great! Who cares what you wear in the jungle?
