    Road side Restaurant
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The food was good. It was just traditional Venezuelan. Notice the dirt floor and mud brick wall at the kitchen area. One thing nice about restaurants in this area, they are open air and no insects bother you as you eat.

Chicken is common in Venezuela and it is good. Also I like cachapa and yucca frita.

?: Red Snapper and cocktails by the sea
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • On my second last day in Venezuela i treated myself to this wonderful seafood place in Santa Fe. I don't remember the name but it's the only fancy place in town and has a great outdoor terrace on the beach.

Red Snapper, fresh from the boat, accompanied by a pina colada

Tommy Town: Chinese food in the middle of nowhere
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Venezuela is certainly not a destination for gourmets and this restaurant is no real exception. But Tommy Town in the remote town of Santa Elena near the Brazilian border offered huge servings of decent Chinese food and prices were moderate.

    The biggest shopping-center in...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The biggest shopping-center in Caracas is Centro Sambil. There is a place that specializes in Churros, and they're delicious. If not properly a restaurant, but rather a candy house, it's still a place for some traditional local (hispanic) meal.

    My favorite restaurant where I...
  • Tip Rating:
  • My favorite restaurant where I eat several times is La Isla.
Here is a picture of the restaurant..he is in the beach, in the midle of the sand..he has a realy good atmosphere especially at night..standing in the chair waiting for the food, and listening the waves, near..
The prices are between $5 to $10..but worth the price.

The food was very good in all Venezuela. They had especially in Margarita Island lots of fish, that the grilled and served with rice or 'papas al vapor', that means, boiled potatoes, and salad. They eat too, much chicken..cooked of diferent ways- 'milanesa de pollo /breaded chicken steak; 'pollo a la plancha' (grilled ckichen, it's very good..I eat this in diferent times) and much more. About the meats, they have very good meat. Parrila de Lomito (in spanish)- Grilled tender Loin, is my favorite dish.I aet this in La Isla, but this is a typical plate of Venezuela..therefore, you can found it all over the contry. It's a piece of meat very tasty..you should try it.
For those you like tropical fruits, Venezuela is a paradise..I don't like much. You have Mango, papaya (lechosa), avocado (aguacate) oranges (naranja), banana (cambur) coconut (coco), passionfruit (parchita), melon (melón), pineapple (piña), guava (guayaba) and soursap (guanábana)
    Try papaya..is very good.
You sould try some tradicional dishes like:
Arepa (the bread of the venezuela people..instead of bread in many restaurants they served arepas -
a plain fried corn pancake. They are filled with almost anything, including eggs and tomato for breakfast, beef, chicken, ham, sausage, shrimp, cheese, salad and even baby shark.
They eat too empanada (Deep-fried cornmeal turnover filled with chicken, ham, cheese, fish (baby shark included) or meat), which is very good..they eat this from the beguining of the day to the end at all times..the best are from those from seeling in the streets, like the ones that I eat at Porlamar, the capital of Margarita Island..and are cheaper too.
You sould try cachito, too. Is a hot croissant filled with chopped ham and or cheese..mmm, so good with a 'café com leche', white coffe, that they served for breakfats in all coffee houses.
And for drink..don't forget to try sugar cane juice with lemon (papelón con limón)..I drink one in a street of Caracas, and it's seems very good and especially very refreshing.
Beer is ubiquitous, and the most popular brand is Polar. Rum, the commonly found spirit, comes in several varieties and is mixed with coke to make Cuba Libre, a favourite drink amongst Venezuelans.
Coffee is domestically produced in Venezuela and is the most common hot beverage.
You have to try 'chicha', a drink saled in the the steets of Caracas..I drunk mine in El Hatillo, a city near Caracas. Is a a drink made of rice, water, ice and condensed milk..is very tasty..and if you wnat they put cinnamon in the top. And for the end of the lunch you can order to 'zambuca', a degistive drink, and seems ans tastes like anis, e comes to the table, in fire and with litte grains of coffe inside. It's very strong, but good.
