Trip to Angel Falls..by canoe and foot

by lemondrop

Angel Falls, the world's highest, can be seen on an all day trip. Before daybreak, you head out on a canoe down the tea colored Carrao river. At some point you are likely to have to walk on land to another portion of the river..this is because of low water levels at certain times of the year. This walk is where mosquito repellant is worth it's weight in gold. The pooty-pooty as the locals call them (bloodthirsty mosquitos) are ravenous. BRING REPELLANT ! After your walk, you are back on a canoe again. The landscape is impressive, with the tepuys (flat top mountains), greenery, and tea-like river. Finally, you come to a point where you start an uphill hike. It will be muddy here, so bring your worst shoes. The hike lasts around 2 hours or so (the way back downhill is much easier of course). When you reach the top, you are rewarded with a great view of Angel Falls...sit back and enjoy! The...

Teleferico de Merida

by lemondrop

This is something you must do when visiting Merida. The cable car system is said to be the longest in the world. It's in 4 sections and 12.5 km long.It takes you up to an altitude of 4765 meters, so it's a good idea to pace yourself and rest a bit at the 3 stops in between to get used to the rising altitude. The entire trip up Pico Espejo takes about 90 minutes, and it's best to start out early, to try to avoid the cloud coverage (and long lines) as the day progresses. Once up top, you have a breathtaking view of Merida and the mountains surrounding it. There is great hiking from the top..don't miss it.

Head straight to La Gran Sabana

by veegoozie

Take an overnight bus with some muscle relaxers and go all the way to the border with Brazil. I found it to be the best way to get there, flights are inconsistent and you will most likely spend the night in PTO Ordaz or Cuidad Bolivar which aren't as special as La Gran Sabana. Once you get to Sta Elena de Urainen take a jeep to El Paujii. It is a small artisan town of about 300 people. IT is up in the hills and has amazing views of the Tepuy's. There is pleny waterfalls to explore and most people cultivate honey or many other berry derived products. Bring old kid clothes for the indegenous community. But one store that has everything, dirt roads and very very special people. The nights are quiet and illuminated by the stars. It is a magical place that you should definately stay at for two weeks. It changed my perspective of time. Just throw your watch out the window and go relax and feel...

Visit El Parque Nacional Morrocoy

by amapola66

A visit to this park in Falcon state, is a must. The park is a haven for birds (including the spectacular Scarlett Ibis) and wildlife, has unbelievably beautiful beaches and little desert islands to explore by boat. You can swim in shallow turquoise waters, snorkle and windsurf. Add to this historical treasures, shrines and a general chilled & friendly vibe of the local town Chichiriviche and you have the perfect spot for a unforgettable time.(See my Chichiriviche Tips for more details & pics).

En commensant par les fonds de canyones

by Aurelien5480

by Aurelien5480

by Aurelien5480
