this is the beach everybody talks about but i was not impressed at all. it's full of wanna-be's and people who think high of themselves, with a lot of money (from europe mostly) and want to live like *** just cos it's trendy to be weird.. no way.. this beach was a disappointment Leave a Comment

Natal Shopping is the name of the local mall in Natal. About 5 minutes drive from Ponta Negra, this is a moden, multi-floor mall with everything you'd expect a mall to have - lots of shops, food court, movie theatre, etc. You can find all those things your forgot, not to mention TONS of gifts for the family back home - all at great prices. The only things expensive in Brazil are gold and electronics. The rest is shoppers paradise! Get excellent deals on all kinds of clothing, shoes, and especially on crystal figurines! All at 1/2 or less than the price you might pay in the USA. On the Main road outisde Natal, you'll pass this mall on the way in fron the airport. Leave a Comment

This is a smaller mall just off the Via Costaria and within walking distance from Ponta Negra beach. With a nice, large outisde eating area and tons of food to choose from, this is great place to do some light shopping and otherwise just kind of hang out and relax for a change of scene. While not a huge place, this single floor mall has alot of nice little shops and, as always, great prices and food. Lots of buffet style restaurants and mostly open air make this a nice place to walk around, eat and shop during the day. Leave a Comment

Also on the road to Genipabu you will pass an Aquario (aquarium) where for about $2 USD you get a guided tour and explanation of all kinds of exotic native fish and animals of Brazil. The tour is in portuguese of course, so it will help if you speak it. But, even if you don't, I'm sure you'll find it enjoyable. From Monkees and Piranha to Sharks, Penguins and Electric eels (piexe electrico)! You can even pet the sharks! (tem a coragem?) This place was called Aquario Natal, it's right on the road to Genipabu in Santa Rita. Redinha Nova - Lotoral Norte Leave a Comment

Going North from Ponta Negra, you may place your car on a Balsa (boat) and cross the Inlet (on the way to Genipabu after the Fort). Once across the inlet, you will pass a tiny fishing village. Don't just Pass it! Stop in and walk towards the water again. All the way in the back there is a small food shooping center where you can get excellent crab cooked in cococut milk and eat outside w/ an ocean view. The Crab is incredible. We paid all of $3 USD for 2 crabs and a 40 oz. beer and the food was excellent! be sure to stop in this place for a real taste of Brazil, beyond the tourist restaurants and bars in Ponta Negra.
