Budget Hotel in Ueno, Tokyo

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 18, 2010

Although it is a budget hotel in had an atmosphere like a hostel. I was initially happy with my single room which looked like as if it had been recently decorated. But there was a noisy (heating?) unit overhead in the room which soon changed my mind. I didn't get much sleep because of it. There was also something noisy outside that clicked on and off a couple of times during the night. I definitely wouldn't return.

Directions: FRom JR Ueno station take the Asakusa exit and walk straight down the main road. There is a sign on the left hand side of the street pointing to the Oak Hotel.

Terrific value in Ueno

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 21, 2007

The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The staff is very helpful and speak pretty good english. There are Skype enabled PC's downstairs, free to guests. There's also a small kitchen and vending machines. You can choose from either a tatami/futon room, or a western style room. Overall, a terrific value.

Unique Quality: Don't miss the Samurai cafe, just a block away. It's a tiny bar, big enough for a half dozen people, but with great charm.

Directions: About a 15 minute walk from the Ueno JR station, or about 3 mins from the nearest metro stop. You can find directions on their website.

http://www.oakhotel.co.jp/english/
