Borneo Paradise Beach Hotel: Resort about 30 mins from KK
BP is a short drive from KK when the traffic's good, which is never...
The resort has nice rooms, though beds are a bit soft. Some overlook pool and sea; ours overlooked the car park. Shower was good. Tea making facilities present. Breakfast rudimentary, plus we had to press hard to get any vegetarian food one day. Staff generally good apart from that. Pool nice, which is good because the sea is contaminated with a sewage outlet. TV has a few English channels which don't operate all the time. Wifi only works in central area and is patchy.

De Galleria , A clean and safe budget hotel in KK: De Galleria , A clean and safe budget hotel in KK
De Galleria is a cheap yet safe and clean hotel in KK . Rooms are small but convenient enough for a couple considering you are not going to spend that much time in . Hotel has free WIFI and big closet with safety box and LCD TV which only covers local channels . shower is small but clean and the air con works perfectly. Breakfast is not included but there is Chinese place nearby plus a KFC is very close.

The Adventure Lodge Kinabalu
The Adventure Lodge Kinabalu or best known as TALK lodge is a very nice place to stay, i said that because it is situated in the foothills of the majestic Mt Kinabalu, their facilities is simple but good enough.
Room - Dormitory style rooms (2 or 4 beds) or even a private A-frame chalets with a stunning view of the Mountain.
other facilities such as Hot Shower, BBQ area, basic Kitchen facilities, and a fire place in a spacious lounge. If you are thinking of dining outside local Cafe/restaurant is only a 2minute walk
there is one things you can't forget about these place after staying in is the Mountain view and the Bundu Tuhan Valley.
Climbing up the Mt Kinabalu - one perfect place to stay before climbing up the Mt Kinabalu because from the lodge it only takes 15minutes walk to the World Heritage entrance
the air here is cool and refreshing (no need for air-con!)

Penthousekk: Kota Kinabula apartment
I have just returned from 10 days in Sabah. I rented a car and stayed in an apartment in KK called Penthousekk it was great it is owned by a Kiwi couple and they rent it out as a holiday home and what a flash one it is, got a great deal on the price for it to, very large has computer on broadband unlimited use, large LCD TV kitchen dining room bar and a fantastic sea view and the big plus is its location right in down town KK 11/12th floors.
When there I drove to Labuan passing Beringgis Beach on the way long way out of town you would definitely need a car, took my car across on the ferry to Labuan stayed the night in Waterfront hotel had a good look around the island bought some duty free beer and returned to Sabah next morning then drove to Temon to buy some of the coffee they are famous for growing and roasting. Then drove back though the mountains to KK this was a long day but had a lot of stop to take photos of the country side.
The apartment is service each day by Lucy and she loaned me a GPS to use and this was fantastic for get to places and back, drove up to Mt Kinabalu as a day trip 1.50 hours from KK to the park did some walks took photos and returned to KK. Next day drove to the tip of Borneo this was a full day lunch in Kadut very interesting little town the GPS had the whole trip marked in it plus all the good places to go and see and stop at.
Eating out in KK is one of the best parts of staying there the food is delicious and so many types of restaurants I found one in Api Api centre just behind the apartment call Kababyan Filipino cuisine just magic food and cheap most mains around 12RM, also you must go the Office Pub to met some of the locals. The water front is just across the road lined with bars and restaurants great place to watch the sun set over a cold beer. The cheapest place to buy beer there is the Cock and Bull. A visit to Wismar square you will find Hong Kong Recipes I had lunch there at least 4 time during my stay great food and fast service. For those of you that stay out of town you miss so much of the food and night life night markets, fish markets a visit to here at 6 AM is very interesting seeing the boat unload and sort the fish.
All in all a great country lovely people cheap to get around eat out and the climate is nice.
I shell return soon
This apartment is the best I have stayed in on my travels can sleep up to 12 people 3 bathrooms 5 bedrooms open plan lay out with a ton of room has a cot and high chair and mountain buggy for kids kitchen full set up lounge with computer LCD TV Bar and a view to die for.

IMPIANA MUTIARA HOTEL: WORST HOTEL!! Don't Stay at this hotel!
We choose this 2 stars? hotel out of NO CHOICE cos my friend was taking an exam opposite, that is at the KUWASA Complex. It was recommended by the exam officer cos it was directly opposite. We booked there 4 nites!! When we were there, too late and too bad we found out there was another hotel opposite named RAFLESSIA LODGE which are much much better, cleaner, safer, etc. We booked standard room (2 single beds) via telephone one month plus before but when we arrived, the receptionist said we have to wait till 2-3pm for the room to be ready, so dued to my friend taking exam we just agreed with a bit more money and took the Superior Room which offered us a 1 Queen and 1 single bed. While we were discussing on the availability of the standard room, the receptionist even recommended us to get hotel elsewhere...Wow!! nice employee..hahaha..
No lift! So if u having heavy luggages and need to walk up and down the stairs, u know what to expect. The room was dirty and run down. Noisy hotel! The bedsheets dirty and the shower head leaking throughout our stay and wet everywhere. Light bulbs blewed while in our stay! The power was not stable there causing my friend handphone to be spoilt while charging. The hotel manager WAS not around most of the time and if u wanna do a complaint, its hopeless!! Even with much proof from the next door hp shop that the cellphone charger was ok and the cellphone was spoilt due to the unstable current there, no actions taken. The manager didn't even bothered to come to discuss, only chat via telephone conversations. SAD, DISSAPOINTED and expected, till now NO COMPENSATION, NO APOLOGIES, NO NOTHING FROM THE HOTEL, ITSELF!!
THE CURRENT IS NOT STABLE, IF U DON'T WANT YOUR CELLPHONE OR CAMERA BATTERIES DAMAGED, DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL.... If u must stay at Sadong Jaya stay RAFLESSIA which is cheaper, cleaner, safer.....Check it out yourself...

Ang's Hotel: budget hotel
I browsed through this budget hotel website and found that the price is cheap, well equipped with air-con, tv, attached bathroom with hot and cold water, elevator to 2nd and 3rd floor.
Location wise, is very strategic. Just a stone throw away from Sabah Tourism Board, Hyatt Hotel, 7-eleven store.
I took a Economy single bed room. A thermost flask(filled with hot water) and a bottle of mineral water are provided. The cleaner will come in for room service everyday, help you refill the water too. So nice~
Only on my last day of my stay, there is one small little cockcroach crawled into my room. I guess it was just escaped from the spray of insect repellent, so it just lie and R.I.P on the floor after a while. So, there isn't any violence involved between us :)
There is one coffee shop downstair which sells delicious local food, like fried noodle. It is always crowded with people every night. Must try, because according to local, it's been operating since grandfather era till now. (",)

D'Borneo Hotel: Highly recommended
We followed the recommendation of The Lonely Planet and were not disappointed. The accomodation was clean and quiet and all that we could have wanted. The breakfast adequate but what made it special was the help and advice given to us by the manager. He really couldn't have been more helpful. he sat down and talked through what we would like to do and then made some more suggestions. Everything he suggested was exactly right for us. The hotel is centrally located and close to the market and several restuarants. If you go make sure you spend an evening at the SEDCO food court. Wonderful!

Seri Borneo Hotel
It is a budget hotel in KK. This is great for backpackers and for those who are in a budget. The hotel just opened last March. Their main branch is the D Borneo hotel with just 2 blocks away from this hotel.
The staff is friendly. No restaurant or anything fancy. Just a room with no english channel. The room is clean and the cr is also ok. They would still give you fresh linen, towel and toiletries

Angs Hotel: You get what you pay for
Comfortable and cheap. We arrived late and left early this was simply a place to put our heads. Put in context we had just spent 4 nights either sleeping with rats in a lodge, see my entry for the Sepilog Resort at Sandakan, or lying on a mattress in the jungle. Our expectations were quite low. The room was clean although my daughter did manage to find a small cockroach but did we care, see above. There was electricity, hot running water, an en-suite shower/bath and toilet, most of all there was aircon and all for £10 or $20 for three of us for the night. It would be churlish to complain. If you are going for a couple of weeks I would imagine that the charms of this establishment might wear a little thin very quickly. But the price is excellent.
None, it's a basic low price hotel.

D'Borneo Hotel: D'Borneo Hotel - excellent hotel
The hotel is perfectly located in the center of KK in walking distance of the major shopping malls and the harbour area with many nice restaurants and local shopping.
Rooms are very modern with all the needed facilities - incl. fridge.
Breakfast is fairly simple but good.
Price compared to what you are getting is very great!!

Sutera Sanctuary Lodges - Laban Rata: High Above the Clouds
This is one of the highest accomodation I have tried. At 3,230 meters above sea level- its quite astonishing how they were able to build and maintain this place. Its a welcome place after a long trek especially if coming from the longer Mesilau trail. Usually climbers spend only a short time here as the trek to the summit happens a few hours after your arrival. You usually arrive at around 3PM and you leave for the summit bid by 2 AM. I suggest you stay for a day in Laban Rata for proper rest/acclimitization and nature tripping.
Food and drinks are expensive since its had to haul the suppies to Laban Rata. By the way, all climbers stay here as Kota Kinabalu does not allow tent pitching on the mountains.
Its 3,000+ Meters Above Sea Level !
