..QUIET CENTRAL HOTEL..

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 13, 2008

WE BOOKED THE GIANT DRAGON HOTEL AFTER READING VERY MIXED REVIEWS.
THE ROOM COST US 25$ A NIGHT AND IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF BACKPACKER CITY ON PHAM NGU LAO.
WHEN WE ARRIVED AFTER A VERY LONG FLIGHT FROM THE UK THE GIANT DRAGON WAS A VERY WELCOME SIGHT.
THE STAFF AT RECEPTION WERE VERY HELPFULL AND HAD US IN THE LIFT AND UP TO OUR SIXTH FLOOR ROOM VERY QUICKLY.
THE HOTEL HAS SEVEN FLOORS WITH FOUR ROOMS PER FLOOR.
OUR ROOM AS I SAID WAS ON THE SIXTH FLOOR AND FOR THE 25$ A NIGHT WE PAID IT MORE THAN DONE THE JOB... OK ITS NOT FLASH AND THE DECOR IS A BIT DATED BUT IT IS CLEAN AND TIDY AND IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THE ACTION..
THAT SAID THE ROOM WAS VERY QUIET WHICH SUITED US JUST FINE.
YOU COULD SAY YOU HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS..GREAT NIGHT LIFE.. THEN A QUIET ROOM TO COME BACK TO AND GET SOME WELL EARNED SHUT EYE.
OUR ROOM CAME WITH SATELLITE TV..HAIR DRYER..AND PRIVATE BATHROOM.
DELUXE ROOMS HAVE VIEWS OF THE CITY, BUT I THINK THESE MIGHT GET MORE NOISE.
ALL IN ALL I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM STAYING IN THE GIANT DRAGON AGAIN..
FOR LOCATION AND PRICE ITS HARD TO BEAT.

Unique Quality: PRICE AND LOCATION.
PRIVATE BATHROOM.

Directions: ON PHAM NGU LAO. IN THE BACKPACKER DISTRICT.

Great family-owned hotel

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 10, 2007

This was a great accidental find. It is listed in the Lonely Planet's mid-range section. We got three very spacious rooms, high ceilings, on the same 6th floor, one of them a corner room with a fantastic view of the Pham Ngo Lao district. Noisy as hell outside; close the double windows and it's perfectly quiet upstairs. Our price for three rooms was $70, or about $20-25 per. The restaurant is nothing to boast of, and they don't. Besides the very clean, spacious rooms they work hard to set up good tours and will do other travel planning with you. But thing I wanted to feature is the family that runs every aspect of the place. You'll meet all of them -- I think there are four brothers, two sisters, two or three cousins. They work very hard and each of them is gracious and very helpful. I highly recommend this place.

Directions: At edge of Pham Ngu Loa district, Ho Chi Minh City
