Really good but... cockroaches!

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 14, 2015

Everything about the apartment was fantastic. The location was great - near shops and a bus stop with frequent stops. Check-in staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful and a free upgrade. The free wi-fi was really good. Everything was better than expectations.

There were cleanliness issues, though. On the surface everything was great, but there was backed up old food under the dishwasher and a couple of visiting cockroaches. One was a monster. I didn't feel the staff dealt with my complaints about the cockroaches very well. They looked concerned but I had to ask them if anything had been done - the dead cockroach was still waiting for me when I got home.

Directions: It's in Waterloo - an up and coming district not far from the centre. Everything nearby is modern, but there are some nice traditional streets nearby.

My home away from home

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 2, 2010

I just spent two weeks at the Meriton Dank St. serviced apartments. After 4 previous trips, all in downtown hotels, I can't believe it took me so long to discover this place! My one bedroom apartment was perfect for my stay. It was almost as comfortable as home, and someone came in and made my bed, replaced my towels and toiletries and cleaned my kitchen every day! Nobody does that at home.

The apartments are in a newish apartment city in an newly gentrified neighborhood. There are literally hundreds of units on the nearby blocks and plenty of eateries, take out places, a Cole's grocery store, video stores, cafes, coffee shops, and the up market shops and restaurants on nearby Dank Street. My only complaint is that there isn't a bottle shop to be found. I don't know why wine isn't sold in grocery stores but if one is walking, it would be nice to be able to get a bottle of wine somewhere nearby!

Unique Quality: My complaints, besides the wine problem, are few; I couldn't figure out how to get the bathroom sink stopper up, the shower was awkward to climb in and out of, and the kitchen sinks were really oddly configured.

Several times my key card got deprogrammed (that seems to happen to me a lot) and I had to trudge a long way down to the front desk, after my one mile walk home from work, twice loaded down with groceries and laptop.

For some reason the "do not disturb" sign seems to encourage people to bang on the door.

Our corporate rate of $144 per night is a real bargain compared to the rates of downtown hotels, and I didn't incur the $40 per day taxi rates. I could easily walk the mile to work and there were great cafes to stop at for breakfast (or brekkie) along the way.

Loved the full size washer and dryer!
