Los Helechos hotel: Los Helechos hotel

In Topes de Collantes there are 4 hotels. Two of them for low military ranks of the cuban army, one for high ranked officials and one more for tourists. This one for tourists is a small 3 stars hotel, "Los Helechos". The lobby has osier reed and natural fiber
furniture. The rooms and cottages are located near the lobby. To reach the
hotel, the paths and roads have steep inclines, making the climb by foot
sometimes a little bit hard after a long walk. The views here are beatifull and
worth the stay for that alone. The rooms are basic, and although clean, very
outdated. Overall the staff were friendly. The food here is OK but usually the
restorant closes around by 9pm.

Me and my friends usually stayed on tents and sleeping bags and walked all the
time.

Hotel Los Helechos: 3 Options: Hotels, "casa particular" and tent

I'm cuban so I don't have access to stay at Los Helechos hotel, it's only for tourists. Nice place, bowwling, pool, swiming poll, and a small disco with shows and entertainers.
I recommend to stay at "casa particular". There are many different houses where U can stay. Most of them are in Trinidad so if U have a car there's no problem. But if U're on foot, better try one of the houses near topes.
Finally, for more adventurers. There's a place 500m from Los Helechos hotel where one can arm tents or hammocks. It has a caffeteria near, only 100m. There's fresh water available and when it rains the place doesn't flood.

I prefer to stay in tents. Once I managed to stay 5 days in "Serrano" hotel, a hotel for cuabans but it's to difficult to reserve a rrom there. It was good ,but nothing like sleep and dream directly under the trees and the birds.
