Altstadthotel Wolf-Dietrich

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 4, 2015

In early October 2015 I stayed here with guests who had specifically picked Wolf-Dietrich Hotels based upon various reviews. For me alone, it would have been out of my price range.

Wolf-Dietrich Hotels has additional apartments, each with a separate website. However, their reception area is for both. We stayed in the hotel part, in a separate building on the other side of the street.
Staff is very helpful, efficient and very knowledgeable when it comes to recommendation of any kind. They gave us tips where to have dinner (Stiftskeller St. Peter and Gabler Bräu) and we could not have been happier with their suggestions.

As already mentioned, our rooms were in a separate building, our key card could open the door to the building. There is an elevator; however we had to take one set of stairs to our rooms which were located in the top floor. Remember this when you book and want access to your room without having to take stairs.
The room itself was spacious with desk, TV, lazy chair and a large double bed with excellent mattresses. I also liked the bathroom: light despite no window (but with automatic ventilation), with amenities, hair dryer and large thick towels. In the small entry hall was an in-built closet with enough hangers and much space.
Yes, I liked my room.

Breakfast was being served in the main building, with seating service. I liked the breakfast too, with fresh bread rolls, Quark (called “Topfen” in Austria), cold cuts and cheeses, Nutella, butter, a selection of coffee and tea, eggs at one’s choice, fresh fruits, yoghurt, etc. Breakfast is included in the room price.

Parking isn’t possible in the streets (for residents only), but the hotel has space for three cars to unload and load cars outside the main entrance. In addition, they provide own space in the nearby parking “Auersperg”, for a slightly reduced fee of 15 Euro per day (non guests pay 17,50 Euro). It is approximately 10 minutes to walk, at ground level, no stairs to walk.

The hotel is located in north of Salzach River, so not in the old town. But we all liked this a lot better because 1) it took us only 15 minutes to walk to the centre, 2) the location is quiet and close by the charming Linzergasse, a pedestrian street with nice and reasonable shops, snack places, bakeries, restaurants, 3) restaurant Gabler Bräu is nearby and 4) we could see the old town silhouette much better from this side of the river.

On the website, many things are included in the room price: free afternoon coffee from 3:30 to 6 p.m., WLAN in hotel lobby and all rooms (and it was very quick), hotel spa with pool and sauna, etc. They also look after people with allergies (gluten and textiles).

The two nights were different in price, however I don’t know why: 133,20 Euro and 115,20 Euro. But looking at the website’s prices for 2015, the price per single room starts at 70 Euro, which I find very reasonable for the quality of hotel and services.

So would I recommend staying here? Yes, very much so!!

Delicious!

Best breakfast brunch I’ve had in my life. All the food was BIO and well-prepared. They also treat you to afternoon coffee and late afternoon latté. Ein hübsches Mädchen, das Christine genannt wurde, war an der Aufnahme sehr freundlich. The room was bigger than I thought it would be with a wide screen LCD, DVD player and mini fridge.

The only major problem was zero ventilation to rid yourself of unwanted washroom odors! Also, the staff and some guests smoked around the internet access area. It was supposed to be a smoke-free hotel.

* I went with my father who is 83 and requires the use of a walker for longer distances. Handicap Friendly in Altstadthotel part of hotel (lift).

The Wolf-Dietrich Hotel

by written on August 24, 2002

About $150 a night for a double, including breakfast.

Unique Quality: This is a family-run hotel with about 30 rooms and a very nice atmosphere. It is named after the Archbishop Wolf Dietrich, who basically ruled Salzburg in the late 1500's and is responsible for much of its architecture. The back of the hotel looks out on the cemetery of St. Sebastian's church, including the mausoleum of Wolf Dietrich. (Mozart's father and wife are buried in the cemetery.) The hotel has a nice restaurant (recently converted to an organic restaurant and very good) and a good breakfast. All the rooms have video players and you can borrow videos (including a few in English) from a collection of loaners. There's also an indoor pool! The people at the hotel are very good to help with tours, concert tickets etc.

Directions: Wolf Dietrich Strasse on the Right Bank, just off the Linzergasse, a major pedestrian street.

A hotel right in the middle of town

by written on August 24, 2002

A bit on the pricer side, but that is compensated by the location (A minute from Mozartplatz)

Unique Quality: Its location of course. Having said that there is nothing wrong with the atmosphere eighter.

The only creditcard they accept is American Express.

Directions: Almost at the Mozartplatz.
