The Avenue Experience

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 13, 2015

The Avenue hotel aims to give a local experience and there is no doubt that staying here will give you an excellent start to your stay in Copenhagen. An impressive building inside and out, we found everything about this hotel delightful. We loved the minimalist, Scandi-chic decor, the quiet, comfortable bedrooms, the friendly reception staff and the healthy, delicious breakfasts. I particularly loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom and the Orla Kiely toiletries. We both loved having a nightcap in one of the chunky, squishy sofas in the bar and dipping into the piles of gorgeous books available for guest to browse through. Free wifi works all over the hotel and there is also a computer and printer next to the dining area. This was particularly helpful for printing out maps, boarding passes etc.

The Avenue Hotel is situated on A Boulevard, where Posh Frederiksberg meets trendy Norrebro and is well situated as a base for sightseeing. It's just beyond the lakes, about a 15-minute walk from the city centre and well served by public transport. At least two buses - 12 & 66 stop within a minute of the hotel and Forum metro station is five minutes away.

The only negative for me was the size of the lift. It was small - three people could fit in at a squeeze - and for someone with lots of luggage on an upper floor this could involve a few trips. Because my son had stayed here (on honeymoon) in 2014, I knew this in advance and booked a room on the first floor. It is a little claustrophobic and for me the first trip was difficult but after that (and as long as I closed my eyes) it was fine. I do prefer a larger lift but given how satisfactory we found every other aspect of the hotel, it would not prevent me from staying here again.

Unique Quality: For us, the outstanding feature of this hotel was the warm, friendly atmosphere and the pleasant surroundings to relax in. It's a very aesthetically pleasing space and if you love browsing through glossy books on architecture, photography and all things Scandinavian, you'll love chilling out here.

Directions: On A Boulevard, just beyond the Copenhagen lakes and five minutes from Forum metro station.

Modern and clean

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 28, 2006

I was pleasantly surprised at how modern this hotel was, the rooms were ideal and clean and well decorated.

The service was spot on and efficient.

Breakfast consisted of croisants, cheese, meat, cereal, bread, jam and yoghurt. Tea, coffee and juice.

The lift was the only 'small hitch' literally. It claims to hold 3 people but it felt a little too snug for two.

Directions: Frederiksberg

Avenue Hotel

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 25, 2006

This hotel is situated in the residential suburb of Frederiksberg which has the advantage of being close to the city but yet peaceful. The building was built in 1898 by the Frederiksberg Building society

The rooms have all been completely renovated in 2005 & are modern and quite arty.
All rooms have flat screen tv, hairdryer, safe, telephone & fridge
Breakfast is an buffet of fruit, cheese, ham, breads & croissants with strong coffee, tea & juice

The room looked exactly like it did from the website
The staff are very friendly and helpful (not to mention not bad looking :-))

We were lucky to get a discount but usually the rooms are
Single DKK 825
Double DKK 1025 per room per night incl breakfast
They have A+ rooms which are a bit more

Unique Quality: The artwork is well chosen
The lift is quite tiny max 3 people at a squash - so if you prefer not to get up close & personal take the wide staircase up to your room.
The room did not have aircon but was light & breezy with a huge window

Directions: From central station Bus 250S or same from Airport stops right outside hotel
