Hotel des Berges: Hotel des Berges

We stayed at Hotel des Berges in July 2008 when we visited the restaurant Auberge de l'Ill for our wedding anniversary. This hotel is on the same land as Auberge de l'Ill, sharing the beautiful garden and riverbank. The hotel is run by the brother of Auberge de l'Ill's master chef, Marco Baumann-Haeberlin, and his wife Danielle.

The Hotel was built in 1992 on a design by Yves Boucharlat which recreates an 18th century tobacco drying shed, the tobacco theme is carried through the hotel with rooms named after cigars and cigar shaped key fobs. The hotel houses 9 rooms, 4 suites and a fishermans cottage. The rooms are very large and tastefully decorated in a rustic but expensive style. Views from the balcony along the river are absolutely breathtaking, the area is truly serene.

I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the hotel by the informal but friendly, efficient and professional was in which we were met and shown to our room. All through the stay the service was absolutely top class, we were treated like, and felt like royalty.

We stayed in a double room which was very comfortable and large, and with a modern and pleasant bathroom.

Breakfast was served on the terrace, although the hotel has two punt boats available which can be booked for breakfast, these are equipped with a cane trunk to carry the extravagant breakfast spread. Unfortunately the boats were unavailable for us, but breakfast on the terrace was certainly no dissapointment, the food, service and ambiance was divine.

Expensive, but an unforgettable experience. Worth every penny.

A truly unforgettable experience, outstanding service, wonderful architecture and comfortable rooms set in a piece of paradise.
