Unique "noble/royal" rooms in the middle of Lisboa

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 18, 2007

I got the sense immediately as I stepped inside the building. It became stronger as we came to the B&B premises and saw our room. This is going to be homelike but still in the city centre. The rooms were unique: Some of the beds and shelves, chairs and lamps were even as old as from the 17th century, made of dark brown Portuguese or Brazil wood; the style is old Portuguese. They were furniture that looked like used by noble or royal people.

The breakfast was not very much and you had to make it yourself. The owners though took good care of the fact that there always was the morning fresh bread or rolls in the kitchen. Juice, butter and jellies from the fridge, cook (with gas oven) your tea, coffee or eggs. They could have had more cups and spoons and other stuff. Of course you had to wash your dishes too afterwards. We decided after the first morning not to make the breakfast as it became too complicated with the stuff they had and took a very long time alltogether to make it, to eat it and to clean everything.

The shower/toilet was in the corridor, but it didn't bother us at all.

Unique Quality: Please see above my description of the rooms (please see their web pages; they have great pictures there). Noble homelike living - not a boring hotel.

They had a wonderful yard/garden outside with nice furniture; you could eat your breakfast there, either in the sun or in the shadow (two sides).

The B&B had a central location: 5 minutes' Metro ride to the old town centre.

The owner couple was very friendly and suggested restaurants (if you wanted to) and helped in any questions.

Directions: Anjos area; just at the opposite the Anjos church. Some 15 minutes from the airport by taxi (30 minutes by bus and Metro).
