Amazing Staff and Great Accommodations!

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 12, 2015

Rarely but sometimes a hotel does everything right. That is my lasting impression of Hotel Danubia Gate. Everything about the hotel; location, staff, room, and food were simply fabulous.

We arrived in Bratslava after a short one hour trip from Vienna. During the rail trip my suitcase handle had decided to go into spring hibernation and refused to open. Given the suitcase weighed upwards of 20 kg; it was a major issue. Remember trying to hold on to a, "unruly child," in a crowd? Well that was the way my suitcase felt arriving in Bratslava.

The Hotel Danubia Gate is within one block of a Bratslava bus stop and was easy to find. We were checked in by Nora (see pic below) who informed us that this was a festival day in Bratslava and that all museums and attractions are free for the day. When I told her about my suitcase she offered to contact another staff person and assured me that she may have a solution. Later in the day, her associate Anna Maria checked in for the night shift. She contacted the only luggage shop on a Sunday and when informed that the manager was not in actually contacted him at home! During my one day stay there was literally nothing that Nora and Anna Maria didn't do to make the stay more enjoyable.

We were given a room on the 4th floor of the hotel. Despite having booked with booking.com; because I couldn't use the hotel's web site they gave us a lovely large room overlooking the street and some pretty buildings across the street. The room was well laid out and quiet. The bed was simply suoerb and the bathroom shower provided plenty of hot water. There were nice touches in the room such as a small cake plate with a local pastry as well as chocolates left on the bed.

Nora also provided us with a welcome drink of our choice. We later had two great Czech beers in the nice restaurant in the hotel which overlooked the street on the ground floor.

The breakfast was the best we had on our three week trip to Eastern Europe. A large assortment of eggs, cereal, meats (both hot and cold), many fresh fruits, juice and great coffee. There was this scrambled egg dish they made that was absolutely delicious.. Arriving downstairs in the morning we were greeted by Nora who remembered us by name and asked how we resolved the suitcase issue.

Unique Quality: The service in this hotel provided by Nora and Anna Maria was absolutely stellar. They went out of their way to help get our suitcases fixed plus provide some really helpful information on Bratslava. When we weren't sure as to whether something was open they made a call to find out when it opened as well as provided good walking directions. Judos to the general manager Andrea of this hotel for training her staff and providing a level of service that is truly five star!

Aside from the great staff the rooms are fantastic. Clean, well appointed, and quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was great with hot water and good water pressure.

The food was also excellent. The place was so good in fact that I would go out of my way to spend a night in Bratslava at this hotel.

Directions: Take the bus line 13 X from the Bratslava train station and get off at the fourth stop. The hotel is about a two minute walk located at Dunajska 26. Bus fare is only .7 euros.

New Part of Hotel is a dissapointment

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 26, 2011

Although we had a twin room booked, we were given the impression that there were none available. Eventually we were given a tiny 'triple' room with an even smaller bathroom with only a hand shower in the bath, no rail and no curtain!!! This seemed to be an extension on the 1st floor and was not satisfactory, particularly in view of the fact that there was a pool table at our bedroom door.!!!!!. The young staff member was understanding and accepted that things were inadequae and eventually moved us to 2 single rooms at no extra cost. The breakfast was adequate and overall the hotel is well located. The high tech impression is a little misleading as fittings generally are not of top class. The charge was high for the city.

Unique Quality: Staff are polite and friendly

Directions: Quite close to Old City
