Val Youth Hostel: Cheap, right where the action is
Finding accommodation in Piran is not easy. I've been there twice and had problems finding a room at both times. If you are not looking for a fancy hotel, you should consider the Val youth hostel. It's located in the alleys, about 20 metres from the beach. We were 3 and got a four persons room. The room was spacious and clean. And it's was cheap, about €18 per person. Which is cheap in Piran standards.

On the Harbor
I arrived to Piran with no reservations. I found the local tourist place which coordinates housing (it was located about a block west of the harbor). They called around and found a place right on the harbor. The interior was very clean and comfortable.
On the upside the view of the harbor (picture) was super. HOWEVER, what I didn't realize is that there would be moped traffic until 2 a.m. in the morning. That said, I did manage to get to sleep, though I would recommend someplace inland a bit.

JUST A LOVELY PLACE: ROOMS, APARTMENTS.......
This was the way to dry the laundry and I loved that very much, the work and the idea of wind- and sun dried laundry, fresher than fresh....I am not used to that here in The Netherlands; most people here have a wash dryer or have an attic to dry the laundry.....far too risky to try to do it outside.........

There even are places here were it is forbidden to hang laundry outside or on the balconies (flats)........

This hostel, called VAL, has 24 rooms only a few steps from the promenade in Piran.
It is cheap and a fine choice...

Raymond and Darinka let rooms for young travellers and those young of heart......what actually is in a number??

The rooms are well taken care of, have 2 or 3 beds, a wash-basin and heating/.
The showers / bathrooms are perfectly clean...

A substantional breakfast is served in the cosy, atmospheric restaurant.

And if you have a youth hostel pass you can sleep there for almost nothing (discount!)

doesn't this sound great?? I thought / think so!
All I can write about this fine place is unique quality: hip hip hooray for Rajmond and Darinka!

Val hostel: a jewel of a hostel
I don't care if Darinka e Rajmond Humar, the owners, call it a hostel - "Val" is definitely a guesthouse... and if they insist it's a hostel, then it's a 5 starts hostel. It's really lovely and well kept: there are rooms with 2, 3 or 4 beds (basically posh dorms). Highly recommended.
Prices vary but are around 18-20 euros depending on the season. It's also possible to have lunch and dinner there, provided you give the owners advance warning

This hostel is perhaps a 10-minute walk from the bus station (which is at the opposite end of the city, to give you an idea of the scale :) ), and is one of the least expensive accommodation options here (Piran has a camping, but i don't know the details about it). We had two beds in a room for four (2 bunks), but our neighbors never showed up. Toilet and shower in the hallway, sink in the room, as usual. Breakfast included, it came out to about $15-$17 per person.

Garni Strasek: Garni Strasek
We rated this place very highly. Clean comfortable rooms with a good breakfast included in the price. Beautiful garden overlooking the bay, grapes at breakfast are not from the garden, they go into the wine!. Owners go out of their way to help.

-Youth Hostel Val
-Youth Hostel Val
3000 SIT/night
Three cheers for the idea! With the general shortage of youth hostels in Slovenia each of them deserves a special mention. Formerly a pension, it now offers dorm beds at very reasonable prices. Since Piran gets heavily crowded in Summer, you'll need to book well in advance.

Penzion Maksimilijan
3000 SIT/night
A pleasant, family-owned place tucked away a few blocks from the shore. It offers beds in quads with private bathrooms, and breakfast in a big dining room.
