Avoid at all costs

Terrible (1.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 28, 2014

-no exteriror window, no air, only window opening onto interior light well overlooking noisy reception area...noise of new arrivals amplified and echos up to rooms
-no security...non-functional safe in room...suitcase with passport and laptop locked inside stolen by someone with a key to the room
-totally unhelpful management
-don't stay here, not worth it

Cheap, Nice comfort Hostal

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 13, 2009

A Spanish Hostal is similar to a hotel, but it has a more familiar atmosphere and is usually much cheaper.

Beware, as many hostals might not match your comfort expectations but if you're looking for something than a youth hostel but can't quite afford a regular hotel (most of them are really expensive especially in downtown Barcelona).

Unique Quality: This Hostal Paris, located a couple of steps away from La Rambla, the most famous and popular Avenue of Barna, is very cosy, staff is nice and helpful, speaks rather good English ( quite exceptional for Spanish folks).

A great opportunity if you're looking for cheap housing. Count 25€ per night for a single room, 45€ for double with bathroom. Otherwise you can still rent a double bedroom for less than 45€ and use the main bathroom (one or two on each floor, cleaned on a regular basis).

Directions: two meters away from La Rambla, Barcelona's main avenue

Wonderful Hostel

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 16, 2004

This hostel is in a little nook off of Las Ramblas. While it isn't cheap, it isn't expensive. I spent my first day searching for a cheaper place and couldn't. Well, maybe a few euros but it couldn't beat the location.

Unique Quality: It has a totally bohemian feel to it with great windowsill. I spent a lot of time sitting on ours, writing in my journal. Yes, I was that corny but it fit the time. Other rooms have balconies. The people who work there are very nice, especially if you try to speak to them in Spanish. They let us stay in our room for hours after checkout with out paying extra. It's close to everything, has clean sheets, and a very cool lounge area to hang out.
