Great room!

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 26, 2005

Our stay in this hotel started with me driving around on Sodermalm for a really long time, trying to find a parking spot that we could have for free with the Stockholm Card.

Easier said than done, the streets in Stockholm aren't made for driving...
Or maybe it's my driving that isn't made for Stockholm...? ;)

After some time, and even more bad words out of my mouth, we finally reached the Pensionat Oden. Easy to find, on the middle of Hornsgatan. Harder to find inside the place though, as the corridors goes around in stranger ways than Stockholm's street system...

If the corridors, not to mention the "reception" was made out in a very simple ways, the room itself was something really extra! Try to get number 34, that's all I say...

Huge bed, with an extra smaller sofa, and a very light. Nice, although small, bathroom, but a big robe and a tv with 10-15 different cable channels. No Canal + though, so there went my chance to see any football... ;)

Right outside the room was a "kitchen", where you free of charge could make th? or coffe. It was also there the breakfast was served every morning.

Served and served. What was included in the nice "breakfast included" was a yougurt, a packed sandwich and a glass of juice...

There went that longly awaited buffet... :D

Still, this place was very nice! Free internet connection at the top, although just one computer. The pensionat is also very close to the subway (station Mariatorget) which made it very easy to get around. Not to mention how close it was (5 minutes walk) to the "canal" between Sodermalm and Gamla Stan. The walk with my traveller Kassy from the pensionat to Gamla Stan was one of the trip's highpoints!

And again, try to get room number 34. Ah... so nice!!

Unique Quality: No pool, no great view, no fantastic breakfast. But a very nice room, and a nice welcoming from the guy in the reception. Who also was very sorry and helpful the night when we got back and the door codes suddenly weren't working, and I was afraid that I would be forced to sleep outside the whole night.

Fixed next morning though, and he came down and opened up, so that sleeping on the street has to be done some other time... ;)

Best with the hotel, except for that fanastic room, is the position. So close to everything in the central parts of Stockholm! 10-15 minutes walk to Gamla Stan, including the ferry to Djurg?rden. 3 minutes walk to the closest subway station, and both restaurants and shops close by at Hornsgatan.

Directions: Subway: Mariatorget
Quite many of parking places around the area (although there are a lot of cars too...), but quite expensive. 12 kronor/hour between 9-17, which is around 2 dollars/hour.

Maybe cheap for Stockholm?

Pensionat Oden Sodermalm is somewhere between a pension and a hotel. The room was cheap for what you got - I think we paid about $50 per person for a nice room with a writing desk, table, television and a nice shared bathroom and computer with free internet in the hall. The staff is very nice and friendly and there is breakfast in the kitchen every day. There is also a full supermarket a block away. The location is pretty good and close to a subway stop (although you really can walk anywhere in Stockholm if you have the time). The neighborhood of Sodermalm is nice and cute and there is some good shopping within walking distance.

Unique Quality: Overall good value and service for not much money.

Directions: Subway stop: Mariatorget (or even Slussen)
