Best Location for Victoria Station

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 10, 2016

We had saved up a ton of Hilton points and stayed here for free, which was really nice given the expensive rates for hotels in London! When you stay at an American chain in a foreign country, you truly are giving up that special "something" you get when choosing a non-branded local hotel. But let's face it: sometimes reliable, guaranteed comfort matters, and the Doubletree Victoria gives you just that.

This is a typical Doubletree that you'd find in any major city; the decor is the same, the amenities the same, the free cookies the same. The bedding is classic Hilton and the beds were reasonably comfortable by European standards (translation: the mattresses across the pond are as hard as a rock)! The staff was pleasant and helpful. As with most Doubletree hotels, there's a restaurant on-site (but PLEASE do not eat there in a culinary city that is as great as London).

The cherry on top for this hotel is its location. It is literally directly across the street from Victoria Station, one of London's major train and Underground / Tube stations. This makes it easy to get around town just steps from your hotel! Perfect if you have an early morning flight out of Gatwick because the Gatwick Express train runs a direct route from Victoria Station. Perfect!

Nice hotel near Victoria Station

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 4, 2015

For the last 2 nights of our stay we stayed at the Doubletree Victoria. We were welcomed with a warm cookie and check in was fast. We had a twin room, there were two beds pushed together but they were large enough that you didn't feel like you were sleeping with the other person. The room had an in room safe, a small refrigerator, tea service, hair dryer, ironing board. The hotel has free wifi throughout, I'm not sure I used it since I had a UK sim card but however I got it, it was quite speedy.

Bathroom had a shower with either an overhead or hand held shower and they had all the toiletries, shampoo, bath gel, conditioner and lotion

Unique Quality: The room rate, booked with Avios miles, included breakfast. They had the makings for a full English breakfast-eggs, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, sausages- plus toast, pastries, fruit, meat, cheese, cereal, juice, coffee, tea. You could also get eggs made to order.

We were on the 4th floor and I heard a little noise the 2nd morning from outside but it wasn't as loud as it could have been seeing as we were right next to Victoria Station.

To get back to Heathrow I took a District line train to Baron's Court (Hammersmith also works) and changed to a Piccadilly line train, cross platform access means no hauling up and downstairs. The ticket queues are ridiculous at peak times at Victoria so I recommend topping up at another station, go a little further into the station where the line is shorter or doing it after peak times

Directions: From Victoria train station, find the ticket barrier for Platform 1 and 2 and exit there, the hotel is right across the street

Hesperia London Victoria (ex Holiday Inn Victoria)

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on November 24, 2005

There is reconstruction going on nowadays, becuase the Holiday Inn Victoria became part of the Spanish hotel chain Hesperia so it might happen that you won't be completely happy with the current situation, for instance during my staying the hotel was under reconstruction, so I wasn't able to open the balcony doors of my room. In addition to that the hairdryer in the room didn't work.
However, I must admit everything is really clean and staff is friendly.
The good think that the breakfast is included in the price of your stay, so there are no additional expenses for it.
Restaurant is really nice and it has buffet so you're able to chose between typical English breakfast to only fruit or cereals or any kind of jam or honey that can come to your mind.
The waitress is serving tea or coffee and you will be also aksed whether you would like toast. There's also additional menu of other meals that can be prepared on request.
There's also swimming pool available till 22:00 so you can relax a little bit.

Unique Quality: The hotel has very good location, in a way that it's really just accross the street to Victoria station, from which you can take any type of transportation either around London or some more distant places.

Holiday Inn Express

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 26, 2005

We stayed there for 2 nights on our return to London from Africa.
Worked out well for us, since its pretty central and we could dump our stuff and head out to shoot.
The rooms are pretty small, but they had all the regular stuff. Dont think they had any cooling though and during the day it got a bit warm inside the small rooms

Directions: Pimlico Underground Station on Victoria Line is a short walk from the Hotel.

Now known as the Hesperia

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 14, 2004

The Hesperia Victoria is conveniently situated right next door to Victoria Railway, Coach and tube stations. It was clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was part help yourself and part ask the waitress (if you wanted tea or toast).

The bath plug was complicated - and I had to ring for assistance!!!!! Honestly I don't know why a plug can't just be of the "push in pull out" variety? - why do people have to change the design of a simple, perfectly functional object and turn the whole thing into an awkward, embarrassing situation??? (But it was VERY funny, even at the time!)

The bar stays open veeeeerrrrrrrryyyyy late for guests and is of modern, trendy decor with lovely squishy leather sofas. I would definitely stay here again.

Update! - the hotel was renovated in 2004 and is now known as "The Hesperia".

Unique Quality: Much the same as any other Holiday Inn (Hesperia) anywhere else in the world - it was nice and clean and comfy and they were very keen on being environmentally friendly and everything worked... only.... our room didn't have a mini-bar!!!! There was a fridge sized space where it should have been... but it wasn't there... but it didn't spoil our stay!

Where to sleep

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 17, 2003

As usual on VT, old Cliffie is going to recommend Holiday Inn. The chain has about a dozen hotels in London, all reasonably priced. Well, reasonably priced for London, where city centre hotels can more or less charge what they want. But old Cliffie also has a brother who is in the hotel business, and he promised to give his brother's prestigious property a mention. Park Lane Hotel. There - happy now, bro?
