Former Georgian coaching inn

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 10, 2009

Stayed here a long time ago before the refurb believe the rooms are a lot better now, and are more expensive as a result. The Angel also owns the Castle lodge (part of Abergavenny Castle) and you can stay here if you want something a little more private and still have breakfast in the hotel.

Unique Quality: Public areas are really nicely decorated, food is very good, local produce, well cooked, excellent afternoon tea.

Directions: On the main street in the centre of Abergavenny

Old fashioned quality, up to date service.

It is more than 50 years since I first enjoyed the "old fashioned"style, comfort and service of this former coaching Inn.
Since then it has had many ups and downs but under the present owners has been restored to its former glory. Only step inside and you will at once feel you are in a special place.
I have not stayed there - I live only a mile away- but am assured of its comforts by people who have.
In addition to its bedrooms the hotel also offers self catering accommodation in cottages and in the Castle Lodge - just paces away.
Dining and Refreshments

Morning coffee could not be better - in the Foxhunter Bar relax in sink-in comfortable sofas or in a separate lounge.

Lunch - a wide choice of light meals, grills and sandwiches all freshly prepared or full restaurant service.

Afternoon tea - forget the Ritz and the Savoy!
The Angel is one of only a handful of hotels outside London to have received the Tea Guild's Award of Excellence

Sunday Lunch - served in the Oak Room
A varied menu with a good range of choices, including vegetarian Options is offered. Two courses for £21, £4 extra for three courses.
The welcoming atmosphere creates a good impression as soon as you enter, the impeccable service. and an excellent meal always contributes to a special occasion
If you enjoy a bit of old fashioned style and comfort stop by the Angel if you are in Abergavenny
It our first choice for Sunday lunch - and barely a mile away from home!.

Unique Quality: The hotel if furnished and decorated throughout to a very high standard with interesting fittings and art work. The ambience created by both the environment and well trained staff is rarely to be found these days.
There is a large private car park at the rear of the hotel with direct access to the hotel, and a very large public car park - Free after 6.30pm and on Sundays - nearby.

Directions: Cross street is part of the street with 3 names that forms the main road of Abergavenny. The next section is called High Street and the third is Frogmore Street.
