Staying outside the Park

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 15, 2014

I'd describe this motel as effective. They provide Wifi, a mini fridge, a hot tub, and an ice machine. What more could you need? The wifi is a little slow, but does the job. It is extremely important bc the cell phone service quality in the area isn't very good. Especially, if you use your phone's GPS instead of maps. The hot tub was amazing after a long day of hiking, we were so grateful for that amenity.

Since I'm a realist, my only complaints would be: the desk staff are sort of grumpy except the French man. They just have an attitude like they are over people. When I was asking where the on site restaurant was located, it seemed like it was a lot to ask of them. The restaurant is just ok. It's Mexican, and not real Mexican. So just boring American style crappy Mexican-like food. But it was food and it did it's purpose.

Unique Quality: If you want to stay in the park, you need to make arrangements at least 3 months ahead of time. I was able to get this location probably bc it's May and kids aren't out of school for the summer yet. And be prepared to pay a lot for pretty basic accommodations. We paid the same amount as what we'd pay for a nice hotel in downtown Chicago, if that gives you an idea. I get it, it's almost in the middle if no where. So to bring supplies in it is probably more expensive than a big city.

Directions: 2.78 miles outside of Grand Canyon National Park

Affordable rooms near Grand Canyon

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 17, 2004

Looking for an affordable accommodation near the Grand Canyon is a tough job. The hotels in the park are very expensive. A reasonbly priced alternative is this hotel in the tiny village Tusayan which is only a few miles south of the park entrance.

As we spend most of the time at the Canyon we did not use any amenities. There was an outdoor pool but the weather in april did not encourage to swim.

There is a restaurant on the premise and a few others within walking distance. A complimentary breakfast is served.

Directions: Just a few miles south of the entrance of the Grand Canyon National Park.

Rodeway Inn, Grand Canyon

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 26, 2004

I stayed in Tusayan, which is 2 miles south of the main canyon entrance. The inn was priced nicely and offered many ammenities, such as HBO, and when the weather is warmer a heated outdoor pool. It is in the center of town (which is really small) and an easy walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. If you want a nicely priced, moderately rated hotel, this is the place for you. There is continental breakfast too.

Unique Quality: The Inn is a nice, quiet place to stay.

The Red Feather Inn is a clean, and warm place to sleep when you are visiting the Grand Canyon. The style is rustic with clean rooms. The price is good.

The Red Feather Inn is pretty much like the nearby and more expensive motels.

Rodeway Inn Red Feather Lodge

by written on August 26, 2002

I paid somewhere in the $70's during July

Unique Quality: Amazingly, this was not that expensive, and it was a very clean, nice place! I would highly reccommend it if you're looking to save some money since most places are like $150 a night during the summer!!! Really, nice place, worth the money.
