Sonesta - Key Biscayne: very disappointing resort

My husband and I recently had the misfortune to stay at the Sonesta in Key Biscayne, FLA. The area is beautiful, but find another hotel. After only two days, we checked out and went down to the Ritz Carlton, which is lovely. At the Sonesta, there were plumbing problems (i.e. toilet backing up, water pouring out of the ceiling into the bathroom) - these problems were fixed right away, but without a word from anyone to us; the pool area is dirty, very noisy and very, very crowded (it seems they sell pool memberships); On the morning of July 4th, we went to the beach - there were no available chairs or umbrellas; we were upset, but figured we would try the pool - again, no available chairs and it was just about shoulder-to-shoulder. When we confronted the manager with this, he simply shrugged and said "Its July 4th." It seems that this is the last year that the Sonesta will be in business and the employees behave accordingly. Last, but not least, after we left this hotel, we found out that they placed a $1,100.00 hold on one of our credit cards - when we contacted them about this, they said it was a mistake and would be corrected immediately. We are still waiting.

pool area is dirty, noisy and crowded; beach is very small and filled with seaweed. The one good thing I could say about this place is that the bar is very good - great drinks.
