John/Dewey Makes the Best Muffins

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 5, 2003

La Maison Marigny Bed & Breakfast is a restored, beautifully decorated 1898 building on the edge of the French Quarter. There are four bedrooms. three upstairs and one downstairs. Each has a private bath, and all are furnished with antiques.

The house is air conditioned, with ceiling fans in all the rooms. Guests also have use of a cheerful sunroom with wicker furniture, and a brick courtyard.

The location is perfect: you can walk to the French Quarter, the jazz clubs in the Faubourg Marigny, and the French Market.

And all this for less than you'd pay at a Quality Inn.

Unique Quality: The most outstanding quality of La Maison Marigny is the welcome you receive from your hosts, John Ramsey and Dewey Donihoo, who are friendly, knowledgeable, and great fun to be around. They provide you with maps and information on restaurants, attractions, and tours, and are happy to make any arrangements for you.

This place is a home away from home! When you arrive, your state or country's flag is flying at the front of the building, and every effort is made to make you comfortable. There are hair dryers and shampoo and bath gel dispensers in the bathrooms, so you don't even need to pack those items, and up-to-date tourist books about New Orleans in all the rooms.
Each guest room is unique, with new linens and fabrics and European duvets.

And did I mention the wonderful Continental breakfasts? Each morning you're offered fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice, and coffee, and John and Dewey compete with each other to see who can bake the best muffins (I must admit that John's raspberry -chocolate chip muffins are the front-runner in my book).

We've been guests here multiple times, and we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in New Orleans.

(Please note that the price per person quoted below is based upon double occupancy.)

Directions: In the Marigny, on the quiet end of Bourbon Street, just at the edge of the French Quarter
