Economical During the Balloon Fiesta

by written on October 19, 2008

VT member, CesVT, stayed in the downtown Econo Lodge during the Balloon Fiesta. I don't know what the regular rate is, but $70 during the Balloon Fiesta is good value. When we were organizing our VT meet, the people at the desk were very helpful. The location is good geographically (close to Downtown, the Railrunner Alvarado Transportation Center, Old Town, Presbyterian Hospital, and the University of New Mexico) but the neighborhood is not one you should walk in at night.

Note that the hotel has limited access for automobiles. The main entrance is from Central Avenue on the south side but you must be going west, since a median blocks east-bound traffic from turning north. The only other access is on the east side from the one-way, south-bound I-25 exit ramp.

Unique Quality: There are several well-known Albuquerque restaurants nearby: Milton's, Route 66 Diner, Artichoke Cafe and the Standard Diner. It is also close to the night spots on Central Avenue downtown.

Directions: Just west of I-25 on Central Avenue
