A Palace Indeed

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 28, 2009

The New York Palace is a beautiful indeed palatial hotel with a glorious palace like setting facing Madison. I had a room in the tower section on the 51st floor that was pretty big, comfortable with an incredible view. The beds were VERY comfortable, the ac was great. Bathroom was splendid with good water pressure and a nice supply of acqua di parma bath products if you care about that sort of thing. Service was very attentive, professional and on the mark. Check out was easy. Really this is a great luxury experience, but the price was only $279 which is a great deal for NYC during the summer.

Unique Quality: Beautiful sweeping staircase leading to the lobby. Wonderful palace like setting. Have a drink or a snack in the courtyard. It ain't cheap but it's great. Also didn't eat at Gilt restaurant but heard very good things about it.

Directions: Madison at 50th

Why stay anywhere else

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 8, 2009

We had the pleasure of staying seven nights at this wonderful hotel. The room was very spacious for New York & the view from our room in the towers was amazing. It was a perfect base to explore Manhattan from, being only a couple of minutes walk to Rockefeller Center. The Full American breakfast with we enjoyed every morning was inclusive with the room. The staff were excellent being both courteous & helpful. I could not recommend this hotel highly enough. We will certainly be staying there on our next trip to NYC.

Unique Quality: Outstanding views from room, Central location, excellent in room breakfast.

Directions: Midtown Manhattan

Palace fit for a king

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 18, 2008

The New York Palace, in midtown Manhattan, successfully merges a contemporary 55-story hotel tower with the historic Villard Houses (1882). Each guest room and suite has a magnificent view of the Manhattan skyline, many overlooking St. Patrick's Cathedral. All rooms have upgraded amenities, such as marble bathrooms, hair dryers, mini-bars, in-room safes, fax machines, and three two-line telephones. All guests enjoy access to a 7,000-square-foot fitness center. The Towers section, a hotel within a hotel, offers private registration, express elevators, and mantre d'itage service. Tower rooms and suites feature two distinctive dicors on alternating floors. One is classical European, and the other is contemporary with art deco influences.

Directions: Located at midtown Manhattan.

The Palace Guard

Terrible (1.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 9, 2007

I can sum my stay up rather easily. $600 for nothing!
I had reservations, called a week in advance to cancel and they still charged me for one night stay. They had record of my call but claimed it was to make the reservation, I clarified that the record would show that the reservation was made about 3 weeks in advance.
They still charged me.
I sent it over to the lawyer who will charge me more than the $600.

Will I stay there again? Not in this lifetime!

Luxury at a Great Location

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

Located just a block from Saks Fifth Avenue and the Rockefeller Center, the Palace Hotel is near the museums too. Very beautiful rooms especially on the executive floors where we have stayed, which have access to the private executive breakfast room on the top floor. Breakfast is great with lots of choices from mini bagels to omellettes to pancakes and eggs.

Rooms are large and comfortable and wervice is good. THe lobby bar is a wonderful place to see friends and enjoy a drink or tea.

Unique Quality: Location and comfort are outstanding.
Breakfast is great.

Directions: block from Rockefeller Center and Saks Fifith Ave.

valet service at the door, anything you disire or request the accommodations are there.
Must see a play on or off broadway. My favorite,RENT.
The room service top notch, and friendly staff. This is a pricey hotel. This was a special occasion for my husband and myself.
I love Manhattan and I would reccomend a visit anytime.
I would imagine most places you will get great people and service as a general rule. It all comes to what you are what you are looking at.Go with resonable and if they include parking do it!

Too much luxury for me

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 29, 2004

I stayed at the Palace (formerly the Hemsley Palace) for my honeymoon. The Palace is known for luxury, five star accommodations, spectacular views, spacious rooms and superb service. The hotel is nice, elegant I honestly feel more confortable at less sophisticated hotels.

New York Palace Hotel.The...

by written on September 7, 2002

New York Palace Hotel. The low-rise set of six connected townhouses, popularly known as the Villard Houses, four of which surround a large courtyard, were an official city landmark. In the face of strong opposition from the city's preservationists to demolition of the townhouse complex, the developer, Harry B. Helmsley, decided to erect a 51-story new hotel tower behind them. That appalled many preservationists at first, but Helmsley, then the most powerful and most respected person in New York City real estate, was not insensitive and undertook an impressive preservation project. At a cost of about $10 million most of the Villard interiors in the south wing were meticulously preserved.
