El Dorado Motel: Substandard
It had been a long and busy day in Big Bend National Park so I was really ready to eat dinner and find a bed in Terlingua. None of the motels I saw seemed that great looking, so I settled on the El Dorado because I love the John Wayne movie with the same name. Bad choice. The lady that checked me in was rude and abrupt. The room was rundown and in bad repair, and the hot water was only lukewarm. The bar colocated with the motel only served beer. I do not plan to return here. $76 in February 2010.

We stayed at the Terlingua...
We stayed at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. It's geared mostly for hunters, not my wife. No TV, no telephone. But it does have a restaurant, dance floor and swimming pool (which was nice considering it was 18 miles to the nearest paved road). Next time we'll look into the Lajitas Resort Hotel
$50 to $55 for a double U.S.
solitude. No interruptions. No distractions. No nothing. My wife and I alone would probably have enjoyed it immensely. But the kids were going into TV withdrawal.
