Very nice but expensive AND pay for Wifi!

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 10, 2016

This is a very nice hotel located in the canal area. Actually overlooks it a bit. Parking is an issue as you are in the heart of the city. You can have your car valet parked or you can park across the street in a pay parking garage. I was here on a Sunday night leaving early on Monday so I only had to pay $4.00.

The check in was very fast and pleasant staff. The room is definitely above average. Very clean, smelled fresh and full bath amenities. I had some work to do so I found out after already in the room, wifi is not free! This room cost nearly $200 per night and they couldn't offer free wifi? The wifi cost $9.95 per day for the slowest speed which is very slow!

Overall a very nice hotel but I would not stay here again out of principle. Many nice places have free wifi and parking.

Awesome location, room, service & breakfast

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)

The Omni is located in James Center right in the heart of downtown, two blocks from the State Capital and literally steps from the Tobacco Company a wonderful & historic restaurant. The hotel was right off I95, easy to get to. Valet was quick & professional.

Our room was great, quiet, comfortable & plush. Room and bathroom were large and filled with amenities.

Our buffet breakfast experience was wonderful. Stewart our server and Thai at the omelet station were very friendly, helpful, kind & knowledgeable they treated us like family. The selection of fruits, breads, sausages, jams and hot options were at least 100 feet long. Yes, there were lox & fresh bagels with all the accouterments. Breakfast was served in the atrium of the James Center, open & scenic.

Gift shop had delicious samples of pralines that we enjoyed, staff helped us select gifts. Starbucks in the lobby was accommodating too. Hated to leave & we will be back! We couldn't have had a more perfect time in Richmond & the Omni was just perfect.

Unique Quality: Location, plush room and super staff!!

Directions: Right off I95, two blocks from the State Capital.

Omni Richmond Review

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on November 2, 2010

Stayed @ Omni Richmond 10/30/10 to 11/1/10 for a wedding. The room was nice but way too noisy. The walls are paper thin. No exaust fan in the bathroom. Tub not to clean, hair in drain. Staff was wonderful. Don't eat at Trevi's, the food was horrible. Bed had a little too much spring in the mattress. Over-all a beautiful Hotel. Good location. People are real friendly & streets are clean.

Unique Quality: We were on the 17th floor, corner room with a great view of the James River & city. Didn't use the pool but it looked beautiful.

Meeting place

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

In 1997, my agency sent me to a training session of several days in Richmond. We stayed at the Omni. The Omni site says it is a "Contemporary, luxury hotel overlooking the scenic James River. Located in the heart of the city’s financial and historic Shockoe District, offering dining, shopping and entertainment options right outside our door."

My room was $63.35/night plus $6.65 tax
Parking at that time was $9.00/night
Local calls were 65 cents each

Unique Quality: I do not remember a lot about this hotel except that they didn't have a pool, and they did have internet access from the room.

From their website:

Hotel Services
Concierge services available at Front Desk
Business Center
Dry cleaning available Monday-Saturday
Language translation
Omni Kids Program
Wheelchair access, braille signage, visual strobe light fire alarms, phone-alarm hookup for visually impaired, double-level peepholes, audio fire/smoke alarms in all areas
Pets under 25 lbs. allowed ($50 non-refundable fee)
Autorent, independent car, van and truck rental company located within building complex
Complimentary shuttle service to downtown locations within a four mile radius. Based upon availability, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Valet parking - $15 per day, unlimited in and out
Bus and van parking nearby (fee)

Directions: From I-95 South:

Take Exit 74A (Downtown Expwy.); Take Canal St. Exit and make right onto 10th Street; Right onto Cary Street; Right onto 12th Street; Make immediate right into hotel entrance.
