  • Taourit Kashbah

    Ouarzazate Things to Do

The Kasbah Taourirt is a spectacular building. You can visit inside a majestic ancient Kasbah showing the best of south Moroccan casbah architecture, right in the heart of Ouarzazate. It was well worth the admission price (20 dirhams if I remember well). We did not hire a guide. Taourirt escaped ruin by moonlighting as a Hollywood backdrop...

    Tazenakht, carpet town

by sachara Written Nov 5, 2015

Favorite thing: The town Tazenakht is known by its carpets. It's also called 'the homeland of the jenif carpets'. Along the streets you see many carpets, mostly orange coloured by safran. Almost all inhabitants of Tazenakht are involved in the fabrication and decoration of the carpets.

When I crossed the town in 2001, just before the king should cross, the whole route through the city was decorated with colourful carpets.

For many travellers Tazenakht it is only a dusty cross road town which you pass on your way from Ouarzazate to Taroudannt and Agadir. From here you can also choose to go east in the direction of Agdz in the Draa Valley or to the south to Foum Zguid

Tazenakht is a town 90 km south of Ouarzazate.
