Nelspruit Things to Do

THEY MOVED!Want to go to Mozambique? The High Commission in Nelspruit is the closest Consulate 'Moz' has to the border. If you come from a Portuguese speaking country, you may not need a visa. Every other nationality is welcome – as long as you pay. They do it in about 1 hour. The office is now at 32 Bell Street - upstairs. They are open...

  • Visit an orange farm

As you drive between Nelspruit and Johannesburg, you will come across many orange/mandarin farms. We stopped by one and had deliciously fresh orange juice and also bought many oranges, pomegranates, avocados, pecan nuts and mandarins.

  • The Kruger National Park's animals

The Kruger National Park is massive and boasts large herds of animals in varying shape and form, an example being when a herd of over 500 buffalo were seen crossing in front of us when we were on our way out of the park at sunset in 2002! For the wild animals who live in the park, each and every day is a struggle to survive, so every sense must...

  • Visit the Kruger National Park!

This world famous National Park in South Africa was founded in 1898 and is just under 2 million hectares in size in total. It is a short drive from Nelspruit. It is, to me, so much more than a piece of the planet where flora, fauna and animal are preserved and protected, it speaks of a childhood spent in avid attention of the detail and attention to...

Nelspruit What to Pack

    What to bring with?

Luggage and bags: Luggage with wheels is always a good idea, wherever you are travelling.

    Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Some ideas:

Light coloured clothing that doesnt absorb the sun as much as dark clothing.

Long-sleeved shirts and trousers will help protect you against the sun and possible insect bites.

A cap/hat that covers your head and neck.

    Comfortable sandals and tackies/trainers/sneakers.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sun screen (at LEAST Factor 35 I would say), headache tablets, and usual little things like some plasters for blisters, cotton wool, germolene etc.

Photo Equipment: Your camera, with charger, and an appropriate plug extension/adaptor.

Miscellaneous: Have a map of the area handy, plus a local bird, flower and tree book. For this you also need a pair of good quality binoculars.

    Beautiful landscape

Favorite thing: This is the view from my friend's family home, about 20 minute drive outside of Nelspruit. It is up on a hill overlooking the valley below. The bush is thick and unrepentant, animals varied and wild.

For their immediate fresh supplies like eggs, milk and fruit, there is a well-stocked fruit stall not too far away, but Nelspruit is a mere 20 minutes away anyway, so shopping is relatively easy.

This is a little bit of paradise in Africa.

    Mpumalanga view :)
