Djamaa El Fna - Square
The heart of Morocco beats in Djemaa el-Fna, where everything happens, and everything has a price, in a non-stop touristy happening. The size of the square, very uncommon in old Moroccan quarters, may explain this intense merging of business and popular arts. The square is a living stage, performing for tourist everything that may lead to a...

Khan el Khalili
If you are acquainted with souks and bargaining, Khan-el-Khalili may be just one more commercial area. But if you want to feel the pulse of arab deals and feel the real Cairo you must not skip this famous street, and its tents and shops of any kind. I must confess that we were not impressed, maybe because... it was one more... we were short in...

Lion Park
I first visited the Lion Park in 2010. I note that there has been one change since then and no doubt prompted by the fatal attack on an American tourist who had her car window open. They now put tapes across all car windows to help prevent people winding them down. As a keen photographer my choice of the 90 minute photographic tour in a customised...

Ethnic / Cultural Diversity
The selection and performance of national anthems must be one of the most emotive of cultural issues. To my mind, national anthems are meant to be rousing and inspirational pieces of music that reflect a nation's sense of self image: however, it's all too easy for them to descend into the realms of worthy-but-dreary dirges burdened with...

Naama Bay
Na'ama bay is the centre of all action in Sharm-el-Sheikh. Everything lives to tourism and from tourism. The beach is segmented in several private concessions, with a band of less than 20 meters considered public beach, which means that you don't pay the access to a restaurant or hotel, but... to... them! During the day it's a sleepy town,...

Kruger National Park Things to Do
The Big Five animals refer to the most difficult animals to hunt in Africa, a term that was invented years ago when hunting in Africa by Europeans was in vogue. Today, spotting the Big Five is the quest of anyone on a safari. The five animals are the lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. I was fortunate enough on my safari to see all five,...
