Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple houses one of Myanmar’s largest reclining Buddha images at 66 meters long. It’s a prominent destination in Yangon.
Founded in 1899 by Sir Po Tha, the old image was demolished in the 1950s due to poor proportions, replaced under U Thaung’s supervision. The current statue was consecrated in 1973, featuring large glass eyes and a serene expression. The temple is accompanied by the Shweminwon Sasana Yeiktha Meditation Centre, frequented by locals.
