This was where we ate lunch on the day we visited the Terra Cotta Warriors. It's a huge room filled with tables for tour groups and families. Our guide, Kevin, had been telling us for several days that Xi'an is famous for its noodles and dumplings, and this buffet style restaurant offered our first taste of authentic, freshly made noodles.
Two stations were set up, one guy slicing noodles into the boiling pot, the other stretching the dough, folding it over, twirling/stretching it, folding it over....it was REALLY fun to watch!
Our meals included one glass of beer or soda, but our small group decided we enjoyed Chinese beer, so we took turns ordering an extra bottle for the table at just about every meal :-p
Favorite Dish Noodles with beef(?) It was delish!
Another Friendship Restaurant. It is a huge restaurant. There was a buffet for the cold Chinese appetizers ? potato salad [I don't understand potato salad on a Chinese buffet], cucumbers, red cabbage. Then hot dishes were brought to the table: steamed cauliflower, pork and small bamboo shoots, bean curd with celery, egg and onion, chicken and celery.
This meal was included in our tour, so I am not sure how much it cost, but it couldn't have been too expensive.
Favorite Dish The best item was the noodle soup stand right next to our table. They were making the noodles fresh right there with lots of stretching and banging of the noodles and then dumping them in the soup broth. See a photo of this in my travelogs. The noise attracted lots of the diners in this huge dining room, so the line was usually long. When it got short, I got some, and it was excellent. They also had a jar of snake wine on display. It looked nasty with the dead snake in the jar.
