Mahabodhi Temple, a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site, is where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. This temple, founded in the 6th century AD, stands on the original site established by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC.

The temple's architecture features a striking 50m pyramidal spire and an inner sanctum housing a 2m gilded statue of Buddha, dating back to the 10th century. The original stone railings from the Sunga period, circa 184–72 BC, add historical value, and the site has been meticulously restored following its destruction in the 11th century.
