Laxmi Narayan Temple or Birla Mandir, Jaipur.

I revisited this place again on 16th November'2012. This time I could take pictures by going inside the campus! I used my 10-20 lens!
The Birlas are one of the richest Industrialists of India, who made their fortune during British Period and with their close proximity to Gandhi and Nehru during freedom struggle and after the freedom. The family Scion Sir Ghanshyam Das Birla ( G.D.Birla) started his career from Kolkata as Jute broker in the 19th century then flourished in to many core business , like Cement, Jute, Oils, Cars, Education, Clothes and many other things. It is said that till 1990s Indian car industry suffered heavily as no new licenses were given except The Birlas with only one exception of Mr.Sanjay Gandhi, who was son of Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who later tied up with Suzuki of Japan. The Birlas continued to make the lousiest car of India Ambassador ( which was a modified version of British Hilman II).

Coming to the temple, the Birlas and many other Marwadi , industrialist of India belong to Sikar district of Rajasthan on Jaipur Delhi highway. It is also the most prosperous district of Rajasthan, where many new industries are coming from all over the world. The village priests of the Birlas ( Who belong to Maheshwari community of Marwadis who worship Radha Krishna) have advised Sir G.D, to continue to build temple of Lakshmi Narayan ( Radha Krishna) for generation to generation for their endless prosperity in all over the country. In other words , in all over the country there is some Birla temple is being built at any given time.

The temples are built by the same artisan family, using marble and granite from Kota, Rajasthan and architecture is almost the same everywhere. The priests are always from Birla village of Sikar district.

Birla Temple

The temple, also known as Laxmi Narayan, is located in the South of Jaipur, and was built by the Birla family (a rich local family) just two yours prior to our visit. This is why, the temple is also called the 'Birla Mandir'. This modern Hindu temple is dedicated to Laxmi (goddess of wealth) and Narayana (the preserver).

The temple has three domes, each one representing a different approach to religion. It is a beautiful white marble temple, which is said to glow at night.

Birla Temple

Birla temple is also called as Laxmi narayan Temple and is one of the grandest temple in the mordern architecture. It was completed in 1988 and completely made up of white marbles. It is situated just below the famous moti dungri hills.

The attractive stained windows glass windows of the temple depict scenes from Hindu Mythology. The idols of the temple look so real as if, they would utter a word just now. Amongst all the idols, the marble idol of Ganesha is a masterpiece which looks almost-transparent. The idols of Lord Vishnu and his consort, Lakshmi attract the attention, being made out from one piece of marble. The temple also portrays great historical achievers, philosophers and religious saints such as Socrates, Zarathustra, Christ, Buddha, and Confucius.

Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir)

This magnificent, contemporary Hindu temple is made entirely of white marble. The interior -- in which no photographs are allowed -- is as exquisite as the outside of the structure.

Many non-Indians consider Hinduism something of a fairy tale religion. From my visits to this and several other temples, I can testify that it is a faith that inspires belief as complete as any other religion and devotion as deep.

Birla Lakshmi Narayan Mandir

Known simply as Birla Mandir, this extravagant white marble temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (a.k.a. Narayan), the preserver, and his wife, Lakshmi, goddess of wealth. It is of modern construction, built in 1979, and financed by the prominent Birla family, hence the name. It is built entirely in white marble with exquisite decorations, and has become very popular among the local Hindu population. It is located immediately below the Moti Dungri Palace and hill.

temple with a view

Birla temple's as elsewhere in India are aesthetically designed and usually in the best location and clean. No difference here. But what jars is the piped music during arathi and poor accoustics of the building.

Birla Lakshmi Narayan Temple

This temple is located 1.5km south of Albert Hall and the Ram Niwas Public Garden and was closed when I visited. Built entirely of the finest quality white marble in 1988, the temple has some beautifully carved sculptures and idols. It is dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narayan also known as Lord Vishnu of the Hindu trinity. The three main domes of the Temple represent a very clear picture of secular India as they portray different approaches to the religions of the nation.
