Hockey, a fast and thrilling game which pumps up your adrenaline not only while playing it but even just watching it. I didn't realize the same until I decided to go for couple of games at Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010 at New Delhi.
We got the tickets for India vs South Africa (Women's) and India vs Scotland (Men's). This was the only slot throughout the Games that had two games being played by Indian team and we were more than happy to grab the opportunity. The stadium had been renovated at a huge budget before the games and the pleasant evening weather was an added bonus. Indian women's team had to win the game with a margin greater than 3 goals. They won but with a margin of only 2 goals (3-1) and hence could not qualify. While Men's team beat Scotland 6-0 and later on went ahead to get the Silver medal at the games after being beaten ruthlessly (8-0) by Aussies in the final. A very thrilling and exciting experience.
It's a nice ground and I have been there one more time after my 5km walkathon in the early morning hours when I could witness the Indian national hockey team practicing. The stadium is named after the greatest Hockey player ever for India "Dhyan Chand" who scored more than 400 international goals in his career.
