    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you like, you can hire the jeep in Mt Bromo National Park to go around the area as well as to take you to Mt Penanjakan where you can see a great view of the whole Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park like the pic here.

Taking a train from Surabaya to Mt Bromo

    by blue_sky04 Written Jun 10, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can take a train from Surabaya to Probolinggo, then continue from the train station in Probolinggo to Mt Bromo by a taxi. The train tickets are Rp. 30,000 for business class (no air-conditioned) and Rp. 45,000 for executive class (air-conditioned).

I have no information about the cost of a taxi from Probolinggo to Mt Bromo.

Please note that a taxi (in small cities in Indonesia) means a mini van (not a sedan) carrying many passengers, and it is often no air-conditioned.

    Jeep Community

by BeeTea Updated Jan 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The place is too big to walk around, and it's only 4 WD car allowed.
The best way to move around the Bromo area is to hire a jeep with driver (we can share with other people because it can bring up to 8 people). We can find jeep anywhere in Bromo, maybe this is the biggest jeep community in the country.
They will offer us to rent their jeep to see the sunrise from Penanjakan since we arrive at the hotel. The driver will wake us up in the morning. Price varies so don't be hesitate to bargain. The price is depend on the season, during peak season it would be higher. Usually around 200.000 Rupiah.

    by blue_sky04 Written Jun 10, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It’s the most convenient way to go to Mt. Bromo from Surabaya.

There are many travel agents and car rentals, which you can contact to rend a car.
Current rental prices are Rp.450,000-500,000 (approx US$50). The price is for a day trip, and it includes driver and gasoline.

    Bemo - Bus - Minibus

by RoyJava Updated May 8, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The best to get to the Bromo Mountain is by bus. From Surabaya Joyoboyo Bus Station board a bus or minibus about 3 hours to Probolinggo. Get up early and try to get to Ngadisari, below Bromo, the same day. From Probolinggo to Ngadisari it costs about 1$ by minibus. You might have to change buses at Sukapura.

In the dry season (April-May), the road is passable all the way to Ngadisari. In the rainy season, you might only get as far as Sukapura and have to continue on vegetable trucks (which come through at around 1500). From Ngadisari to Cemoro Lawang, walk or take a little horse either the day before or start out very early in the morning of your climb...

Best is to spend the night at Ngadisari or Cemoro Lawang ...

    Car or jeep

My transportation is include in the package. This is the only way you could reach on top of Tengger Caldera and Mount Bromo. Unleast, you trek all the way up there. Othet then that, you could rent a jeep but it adviseable to have a guide that knows well around the area.

Public Buses from Surabaya to Mt Bromo

    by blue_sky04 Written Jun 10, 2005

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can go to the main bus station “Bungurasih” in Surabaya and take an “out of town” bus to Probolinggo. There are two kinds of buses – one is air-conditioned (called “PATAS”) and the other is no air-conditioned. I have no information about the costs of the buses.
From Probolinggo you can take a taxi to Mt Bromo.

    HORSE RIDE

Feeling tired to walk on the sea of sand in Mt Bromo area??

You can take a horse ride as an alternative. It is not expensive. I did this on my first visit to Mt Bromo. The horse will take you up to the foot of Mt Bromo, then you can climb the stairs to the top.

V.I.P. bus to get away from Bromo

Getting away from Bromo can be done with the same man who brought us there (private car and bus) but we missed his little bus and finally found a luxury bus (near empty) for which we had to pay 65.000 R each.
In 3 1/2 hours we arrived in Banyuwangi, near the ferry

Bus and private car to get there

by chrisvandenbroucke Updated Jun 15, 2004

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

From Solo we took abus (2 hrs ) and arrived somewhere in the middle of nowhere in a busstation in Probolinggo.
There we were temped to take the (cheap) local bus (a small one) but heard that it would take us 3 hrs.
The private bus would only take one hr.
We were in the back isde of the car which had also a driver and one more man in the front. It became dark and we didn't know where we were or how long it would take us.
Somewhere along the road, they just stopped and asked for the money. I paid and luckily, they drove further.
After one a half hour we arrived at the hotel.
Catherine had been scared to death.

    JEEP- HARDTOP to BROMO

by meiyergani Written Oct 24, 2015

There were many bus from Bungurasih (Surabaya) station to BAYU ANGGA (Probolinggo City) Bus station in the daily basis, aircond or non aircond economy bus ....or if you take a train from Surabaya Gubeng or From Banyuwangi to Probolinggo Train station, take an angkot sharing taxi to BAYU ANGGA bus station.....if an angkot driver offer you a directly trip to Brom, you'd better denied it and said to him that you want take a minivan at Bayu Angga bus station, not to travel agent ...!!

then from BAYU ANGGA Bus Station (Probolinggo City) to Cemoro Lawang Village (Sukapura District) about 45 Km in distance and take about one hour (minibus sharing taxi, local people recognized its as BISON bus/ ELF BUS) cost about 30,000 to 50,000 Rupiah/person depend on how many persons on board .....this kind of Transportation available in the morning, keep in your mind it would be batter if you take a morning trip by this kind of transportation.

From Cemoro Lawang Village to Mount Bromo there are many option, rent a Jeep, popular with Toyota Hardtop load about six or seven passengers (you could sharing with other visitors, or just rent for yourself). There were many Jeeps around Ngadisari or Cemoro Lawang, where mini bus from Probolinggo ended the trip here..... Jeep/Hardtop cost about 300.000 to 400,000 Rupiah, please do bargaining maybe there is a little change about the cost by the change of gasoline price recently
or rent a motorcycle (ojek) for about 50,000/motorcycle or ride a horse which cost about 100.000 Rupiah/horse, but many tourist enjoy walking from Cemoro Lawang to Bromo Crater

    yogjakarta to bromo

by bahaiano Written Dec 7, 2004

book the whole trip in yogja. for example: for around 20 euros you get a direct minibus-ride to bromo, you ll stay in a nice hotel and the other day they will you bring direct to bali (lovina or kuta) or back to yogja. if you want to do it on your own, you have to change the bus x-times to get there and you will pay high prices for the hotels there. so, if you can afford these 20 euros, do not hesitate to spen em :-)

here i spent a short night
