    Okuni(Oguni) Shrine

    by taigaa001 Updated Sep 13, 2012

The shrine with 1,500 years old history is often mentioned as Ichinomiya(the title given to the finest shrine in each province). It is best known by its close relationship with deities enshrined in Izumo area in Shimane and Tottori. It is also a start of hiking trail to Mount Hongu, 511m in elevation. It is also popular for its Japanese lily garden and for viewing autumn leaves. The shrines had been given support from Iyeyasu Tokugawa and shoguns of Edo government. It is said that the shrine sided with Iyeyasu when Iyeyasu and Shingen Takeda had been engaging fierce battles during late 16th century. The shrine precinct has simple, clean and peaceful atomosphere.
