KLIA Transit Tips (11)

When arriving at the long distance bus terminal at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan at Bandar Tasik Selatan you will have two options to reach KL Sentral, one with KTM Komuter and the other with KLIA Transit train, but there is a difference in price.
The KLIA Transit is one stop away from KL Sentral, taking 7 minutes and costs 4.20 ringit, while the KTM Komuter is 4 stops to KL Sentral taking 17 minutes but only costs 1 ringit.
Tickets are purchased before the ticket barrier. There is a walkway that connects the train station to the bus terminal, just follow the signs.

If you are traveling between different areas of the main terminal at KL airport there is a small shuttle train that leaves every few minutes to area C. The journey takes only a minute and the train travels quite fast and you are warned to hold on tight

Alternative Way to LCCT

There is no direct train between KL Sentral and Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). KLIA Transit provides an alternative way to reach LCCT with the combination of train and coach.

You can catch the train either in KL Sentral (RM12.50), Bandar Tasik Selatan (RM10.80), or Putrajaya/Cyberjaya (RM5.50) stations.

First, you buy a ticket at the counter at the respective station. They will give you two tickets,a train ticket and a bus ticket. You enter and exit the train platform using the train ticket.

Second, when you reach SALAK TINGGI, you have to get off the train and exit. Once you exit the train station, you will see a coach waiting outside the station. You need a coach ticket to board the coach.

Pro: It is not crowded in the train and coach. The service is better than taking the Skybus.
Con: You have to make the transfer between train and coach. If you have many luggage, it is not suitable to travel this way.

LCCT to/from KL Sentral Station.

This is how I usually travel in/out to LCCT.

From KL Sentral to LCCT:

---> KLIA Transit: Buy the ticket KL Sentral at KLIA Express Ticket Counter. You pay RM12.50, you will be given one train ticket plus one coach ticket. You will ride the KLIA transit train from KL Sentral to Salak Tinggi Station. When you exit the Salak Tinggi Station, you will see the coach waiting for you to continue your journey to LCCT.

---> The whole journey takes between 50 minutes to 1 hour.

---> Alternative Skybus: If you choose the skybus, sometimes the bus is full you have to wait another 30 minutes for another bus to leave. Driver and staffs are not friendly, and lie to you about the schedule. Especially if you are in the rush to the airport, you could turn out to miss your flight. They are not responsible for the delay. Unless you have plenty of time, then it is okay to take the skybus, RM9.

From LCCT to KL Sentral:

---> I usually take skybus RM9 from LCCT to KL Sentral.

KLIA Transit.

We arrived at Kuala Lumpur Airport early in the morning and wanted to take a bus to Melaka as soon as possible. We went to the bus station to get one. To get there we took the train to Bandar Tasik Selatan Bus Station. The ticket cost 26.5RM.

The KLIA transit goes all the way to Kuala Lumpur Sentral but stops at several places on route such as the south bound bus station.

An excellent way to get to KL Central from the LCCT.

This is a venture of Air Asia, and it works.

The service is supposed to be 1/2 hourly, but ends up going more frequently than that due to demand.

Fare is 9RM LCCT - KL and 10RM KL - LCCT

Trip takes about an hour each way.

At KL Central the bus is got from the lower level bus station, and from LCCT from the bus station outside the terminal.

You can't miss them, the bus's are red.

You can also pre-pay your fare when you book An Air Asia ticket, bur from the booth just outside the terminal or from the bus driver.

kLIA Express

If you are on your own, the train to KL city is the way to go. Cheap, fast and easy. Buy your ticket at the pink booth just after immigration / just before baggage collection to save time You take the lift down to the train platform and the train has you in KL Sentral in no time. When you go up the escalator from the platform and exit the ticket scanner, go to the Taxi counter for a fix price taxi to your hotel. If you have bags you will need to take a Premium Taxi which has baggage space.

Bus between Airport Terminals

To get from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal at Kuala Lumpur to the Kl International Terminal, there is a "green shuttle bus" that in 2007, cost the cheap price of 1.50rm one way. You have to take your luggage on board with you. They arrive & depart every 30mins. The trip is 20kms. The Information centre at the terminal can help you with directions of where to catch it.

Fast and Cheap travel from and to airport

Travel from airport to city by cab can be expensive. Instead try and use the high speed train system. You reach city center in 28 mins flat. Its comfortable, fast and cheap.

KL Monorail

KL Monirail lies in city centre. It connects KL Sental and Titiwagsa. The tourism spot Bukit Bitang is recommeded.

We lived in Istana hotel and the location was close to Raja Chulan.
