At my hotel I was informed about a public and a private company linking Mandaly to Mingun. When I arrived at the port, I have found only the private company.

The public boat is supposed to leave from Mandaly at 08:30 and the fare should be between 3000 and 4000 Ks.
Besides the tourist boat, there is a slow boat twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, from Mandalay to Bagan. The trip takes about 14 hours and the fare allows us to have a seat in a plastic chair.
During the trip we have opportunity to see how the people live in the several villages the boat stops. At these points, locals come inside the boat to sell local prepared food and fruit.
05:30 - 19:30
Getting to Mingun is an easy process. There is a jetty at the river banks from where daily boats depart for Mingun at 9 am. You can buy your tickets (paid in kyats) at a non-signed booking office where you also pay for your entrance fee to the archaelogical zone of Mingun.
We had to jumb several boats before entering in ours..
The journey to Mingun lasted 1hr 20 minutes but the journey back was just 45 minutes. It is an interesting journey as you take a glimpse over the river daily life and the population living sustantial lives there (see additional pics)
When you go to Amarpura and U Bein Bridge there are a number of boatsmen who will offer to take you across the river. In the heat they work pretty hard so I would recommend that you walk across the bridge one way and catch a boat the other.
To reach Saigang from Inwa you may take a ferry to cross the river
I don´t know if the word ferry is too big for the boat we used but the place was very interesting
You must go to Mingun by boat o he Irawady river
It is a very relaxing trip and don´t takes more than half an hour
We had an argue in our boat to go in the top deck , because they said it was not possible as the boat it was a "ferry", we got it and when we wanted to go inside again they had used to dry their clothes
The docks where you take the boat has a very curious activity and is very colourfull
