Established on April 28, 1611, by Spanish friar Miguel de Benavides, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) stands as the oldest university in Asia. With its roots in Catholic education, UST remains a significant cultural and academic center.

UST houses the country's first and oldest engineering, law, medical, and pharmacy schools. It features a vast campus that includes 22 colleges, a parish church, and a teaching hospital. The university's architecture reflects its historical significance, with several structures declared National Cultural Treasures in 2011.
