Maxwell Food Centre Tips (9)

Maxwell Food Centre: Oyster Pancake

Maxwell offers you a wide range of local food at reasonable prices. It is near to Chinatown. There are many popular dishes such as dim sum and porridge.

Favorite Dish I like the oyster pancake best. Its filling is soft and you can chew on the rich seafood. The skin is crispy and normally you cant stop at one. Try the SGD 2 oyster pancake as it had more fillings.

the auntie serving me is very friendly, and also ask me for my feedback regarding their fish soup

Favorite Dish try out the fish soup at HAPPY FISH SOUP!

its at maxwell food centre,

the price range is around $3 to $4 for a very big bowl of fish soup, i have tried it and their rice is not normal white rice, its actually yam rice, and it goes well with the fish soup!

Maxwell Food Centre: Good Food !!!!!!

the seats r uncomfortable coz the table is low n the chairs r high. have to bear with it a little. don't go there during weekday lunch , very crowded n the queue will be eye boggling .

it's pretty stuffy and warm :p it's self service at most of the stalls.

Favorite Dish 1. Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
2. Deep Fried Fish Meat Soup
3. Porridge which is located at the end of the 2nd Row

Maxwell Food Centre: Queue for Chicken Rice

Tian Tian Chicken Rice in the Maxwell Food Centre

The queue at this place is out the door - and rightly so.
Best chicken rice I have ever tasted, but I am not experienced in the subject !
Damn cheap too.

Favorite Dish Chicken Rice - it's the only thing they do !

Fish Soup and Cantonese Porridge: The best hawker stalls at Maxwell Food Centre

Apart from the famous Tian Tian chicken rice, there are also a number of top rated hawker stalls like Jin Hwa Fish Soup, Zhen Zhen Porridge and China Street Prawn Fritters, addresses of these stalls in this link:

Favorite Dish Jin Hwa Sliced Fish Soup... taste it and you will know its the result of many hours of boiling to extract every ounce of flavour from the ingredients

Maxwell Food Centre: Not too bad but better options available

This is similar to Lau Pa Sat but not as good. A serve of fried rice, 8 dumplings with chicken cost around $7.00 SGD and would serve 2 people. The food is cheap but not as high quality as Lau Pa Sat and not as big a variety.

Maxwell Food Centre: Food Centres

Chinese people don't eat home... and they are right, there are food centres, small estate restaurants everywhere, and the food you get for some SGD 5 or so has nothing to do with European "Chinese" food, heated in microwave ovens :) I wanted to be hungry all the time to eat everything I see. .... Well, almost everything.

Maxwell Food Centre: Queues!!

clean hawker center but i hate the seats. the seats are high and the tables are of average height. as if all those who dines there are shorties. its very annoying to eat your food having to bend yourself forward.

conveniently located near chinatown. so much cleaner to eat here than chinatown. but CT's food center is under renovation now, so maybe situation there would improve.

Favorite Dish Tien Tien Hainanese Chicken rice (pardon me if i got the name wrong). Its really a nice chicken rice, if you can skip all the queues. The rice is perfectly cooked with chicken fragrance and the perfect taste of the rice oiliness, which makes the rice smooth but never over oily. the chicken taste like other A-listers, just as nice. Try going for this stall during weekends at aroung 11+am. when they just started. fresh and queue-less.

I think its called Zen Zen porridge. the one with the super long queues. nice porridge, but i would not queue 45min for this. if you must have porridge, and want no queue, try the stall at the row behind Zen Zen. would be the no.1 stall if not for zen zen. Try the raw fish slices too. i love them!!!

It seems as though these 2 stalls are synonymous with queue huh. there's a curry chicken noodle which is a branch off the infamous original stall in Hock Lim Complex.
