The museum's foundation is rooted in the collection of Kim Chang-il, who began collecting contemporary artworks after being inspired by a 1981 exhibition in Los Angeles. It features a diverse mix of over 3,700 pieces gathered over 35 years, highlighting both Korean and international artists.
