Jogyesa Temple serves as the hub of Korean Zen Buddhism. Established in 1395, it became the chief temple of the Jogye Order in 1936.
The temple is renowned for its grand main hall Daeungjeon, completed in 1938, which follows the Joseon-dynasty architecture with intricate designs depicting Buddha’s life. Inside, visitors can find three significant Buddha statues: Amitabha, the Historical Buddha, and the Medicine Buddha. Additionally, a rare 15th-century Buddha statue can be found in a glass case.
